Well, that was quite the 80 minutes of rugby to kick of both sides' WXV Global Series campaign, with the USA impressively coming back from a 24-12 deficit at half-time to beat Ireland 40-36 at Tallaght Stadium in Dublin.

Two tries from Treder, along with Taufoou and Tafuna saw the visitors do enough to overpower Scott Bemand's side, and they can take great confidence from that heading into the rest of their campaign.

The girls in green will now reflect before they head to Galway’s Dexcom Stadium, where they will face Japan next Sunday.

Speaking after full-time, Ireland captain Erin King told TG4: "I'm disappointed if I'm being honest.

"We came out of the blocks and showed what we're capable of and I think we're a little bit frustrated that we didn't show that for the full 80 minutes.

"Lots of learning though and you get your best learnings from your losses, and if we can take them and bring them into next week against Japan, we'll be happy with that."

Speaking after full-time, player of the match Freda Tafuna told TG4: "Props to Ireland they really gave it to us. We knew coming into this game that we'd have to give it our all because we'd be the underdogs.

"I'm definitely proud of myself. I had a bit of a rough week with myself, but being able to persevere with this game was amazing.

"I think we're setting the tone with this game and this win, so I hope we can carry it on with our next matches."

Ireland captain Erin King and head coach Scott Bemand are on the pitch and they both look pretty serious and animated.

There'll be plenty of conversations over the next week ahead of the rest of the campaign over what went wrong after a superb and exciting 60 minutes.

After a hugely entertaining and high-scoring first half, in which Vicky Elmes Kinlan, Cliodhna Moloney-MacDonald, Aoife Wafer and Eve Higgins ground tries to put Ireland in solid lead, the second half fell flat.

Poor discipline in the second half and the USA finding their rhythm saw the visitors score four tries in the second half.

Scott Bemand's side will now have to reflect, as they prepare to take on Japan at Galway's Dexcom Stadium next Sunday.

The USA's number eight Freda Tafuna is named the player of the match.

She was so impressive and got her side back on the front foot, put in a huge amount of carries and grounded the USA's final try, which made it too hard for Ireland to come back.

The visitors managed to dig deep and come back from being down 24-12 at half time and 31-12 down early in the second half to secure victory in their WXV Global Series opener.
