Van Zyl and McFarland to leave Saracens

Samoan forward Theo McFarland and South African scrum-half Ivan van Zyl will both leave Saracens at the end of the season.

Van Zyl, 30, has made 134 appearances for Sarries since joining the club from Pretoria-based Bulls in 2021.

McFarland, also 30, has made 86 appearances for the London club since signing in 2021.

Both players were part of the squad that won the Prem title in 2023.

McFarland, who has 24 caps for Samoa and can play in either the back row or second row, said he has "loved" his time at the club.

"I will continue to give everything I have in these final few games and help finish the season strongly," McFarland, who will be joining an as-yet-unnamed club in France, told Saracens' website., external

Van Zyl, who has seven caps for the Springboks, will be returning to play in his native South Africa but his exact destination has also not yet been revealed.

"Looking at the last five years as a whole, it's not always been easy, but it has been so worth it," he told the club site., external

"Being a centurion for this great club, winning the Gallagher Prem and captaining this side on the odd occasion is something I am very proud of."
