Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It just resumes the season. We didn't score enough goals. It happened a thousand millions times for this team in the last decade but this season we struggled.

"We cannot play 90 minutes like the last 20 minutes, it's impossible. We know that because we're playing Madrid and travel, three days then come to London. It's tough but we have to fight, fight, fight until the end.

"They did it again, they deserve a monument this group of players because I know how they work and how unfair that they didn't get the reward for what they've tried. It's football something.

"I'm so proud that we played so good, I like the way we do and we move forward and hopefully on Tuesday [against Real Madrid] with our people we can create a good vibe and see what happens."

On the title race: "It's so difficult but we have a game in hand, this game at home against Arsenal. I'm not saying it will be easy to beat them but there is hope. Always, you have to be there.

"I don't know how they are playing because I didn't see the last games but I have a few things that I like, it could be better but it is what it is."

On City's performance: "Yes [we controlled the game in the first 20 minutes], without much threat and I don't like that. You need the spark in the final third with your players.

"Second half with Cherki, we had a little bit more this sense of the rhythm. We're tried but we dropped points.

"To win the Premier League you need to be more consistent. In the past we had the consistency to win and win and win, to always find a way. In the past, we always found a way to win this type of game.

"This season, not scoring goals for the amount of chances we've created, we've been punished. Not over yet."

Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola speaking to TNT Sports: "Who said? It's not over. We didn't lose. It's not over. We will continue.

"We have an incredible team, spirit, we had an incredible amount of effort in Madrid and how we played first half. More shape and we put energy in second half with incredibly talented players/ The last two games, Nottingham Forest, we played much, much better.

"We are an incredible team. We play so good. The guys go and go until we cant continue. We didn't score enough goals when we had the quality to score. They punished us."

On watching from the stands: "It was perfect. I love to be there.

"I will complain more to the referees to get more yellow cards. I will try it again. It was different, more relaxed. We spoke during half time and in the second half to try and put creative players in position."

On being on the phone with assistant Pep Lijnders: "We charged the battery before."

On whether there is still a title race: "Now we will rest and prepare for Madrid and give everything. These guys deserve it. Nine points is a lot against Arsenal but it happened. We have the game at home so we have to try until the end. When it is not possible then we congratulate the champion but we have to try."

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh on working with manager Fabian Hurzeler, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "He's a good manager and I love him, I like to work with him. He tries to develop me more to be good in everything. He knows my strengths, what I am good at and what I am not good at. He always talks to me and I try to listen. He is really intense, training is always lively and good sessions, always intense."

West Ham United

West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo speaking to TNT Sports: "We feel OK. We knew it was a very tough match. I would say it was heroic the way we defended, the way we put our bodies on the line.

"Very proud. It's necessary, it's a need we have and keep on having - defending well. We didn't have too much today but we had enough. We achieved something really important for us. The fans were with us. They go out of London Stadium proud of seeing their players suffering and doing everything they can."

On scoring straight after City's opener: "It was a good moment. It is very hard after you concede to get control against City. We were positive in the set piece and achieved a beautiful goal."

On moving out of the relegation zone: "It doesn't change because I think recently we have this belief in ourselves that we can compete well. We proved it, it doesn't mean much but it is always good."

On gathering momentum: "It helps everything. In a couple of days the boys will recover better, train better and prepare for the next match in a nice mood."

Ally McCoist
Former Rangers striker on TNT Sports

I think Arsenal's position is too strong. I know there have been one or two question marks, but they are winning games.

West Ham United

West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "You can say [the defending was heroic], a lot of sacrifice, a lot of bodies on the line. It has to be this way.

"We defended very well, the midfield worked very hard and the front players also tried to cut lines to delay the game. Overall defensively - especially first half - we were really, really compact and didn't allow too many chances to City."

On having belief at 1-0 down: "It was good because I think it was only three minutes. So we didn't have too much time. The reaction of the boys was amazing. To achieve a goal and keep believing that we can get out of this situation."

On upturn in form: "The fans today suffered alongside the boys, knowing that it's hard to play but like you said, there is a turning point in terms believing and also performance and results that makes us positive for the future."

On moving out of the bottom three: "It doesn't mean much. It means that we are achieving points game after game, which is important, but the table can change at any moment. So what we did was a good job so let's rest and move to the next one."

Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "Our record [away at Stamford Bridge] has been disappointing. I didn't know it was that bad until the press conference when they always remind you of the negatives.

"Delighted with the performance. Defended really well, strong second half and we blocked a lot of shots, defended crosses really well and protected Aaron [Ramsdale] really well. We showed our qualities defensively and that is a great sign for us.

"We passed the ball well when we needed to. We were always a counter threat without creating chances. A real quality for the goal with Tino's [Livramento] pass. That gave us the confidence to go and do well in the second half."

On changes from Barcelona game: "We made changes to the team and we showed the depth we have to the squad. Players came in and did really well. You want the players to ask you questions of your decision making so that was positive to see. The spirit in the changing room afterwards. We have a great group of players. Physically I thought we were outstanding today."

On their second leg against Barcelona: "You don't want to go into the size of that game with a negative. We wanted a good feeling. Today was an all important win in the Premier League, gives us confidence in the future and we will do all we can to get a positive result."

Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, speaking to Sky Sports, on Max Dowman: "It was a great moment. Especially the way the goal built up and we had 10-15 seconds to really enjoy what was about to happen!

"It was magical. On the bench and all the players together, jumping with the crowd. It was a beautiful day.

"It is not only the goal that he scored, he changed the game. Every time he got the ball, he makes things happen and we are more of a threat. To do that at that age, in this context with the pressure, the expectations to win the game, it's just not normal.

"It's so organic for him, he doesn't feel the pressure. He goes, gets the ball, stops on the ball. It's natural for him, that's the best thing, so just make sure he does what he feels.

"When you have such a talent then I'm sure good things are going to happen."

On instructions to Dowman and Gyokeres: "The impact that the finishers are having this season is remarkable.

"Everybody is important, everybody is adding to the team and there are moments that we have to be patient because with all the dominance and the shots when you don't score, the anxiety is building.

"You have to stay composed and be relentless in your desire to make something happen and the team really had that spirit today."

On Gyokeres' impact: "He does so many good things for the team and today he scored a massive goal. You have to be in the right spot at the right moment."

On the title race: "Job done from our side. The performance in many situations was very, very good. What we are doing every three days, the players deserve a lot of credit.

"What we do is to create memories and create moments. For many years, I think people who were in the stadium today will say 'I was in the Emirates that day when that kid at 16 scored a goal at such an important stage of the season'."

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler speaking to Sky Sports: "I think it was a deserved win. Overall we started the first half well but we weren't efficient in our finishing. Our goal happens out of nowhere with a bit of luck and after that we defended really well. I was pleased with how the group stuck together and supported each other.

On Yankuba Minteh's goal: "The goals don't have to be nice. He has gone through tough times but stuck to his principles and hopefully that was just the starting point for him."

On taking Yankuba Minteh off after he got a yellow card: "It is important in an emotional atmosphere like this. You have to take care of the players."

On where Brighton could finish: "We have eight finals ahead of us. We go game for game. We have to play every single game like this, like it will be the last game of the season. We have to keep pushing the basic standards on the pitch and then let's see what happens."

Sunderland

Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It was a good Premier League game. Brighton were good during the first half, the first 30 minutes. The second half was well balanced. We had an opportunity disallowed. They had their opportunity which was allowed. The lads showed great mentality. It was a good game but it wasn't enough today.

On Brighton's goal: "For me, we have to play the game. If we think that the VAR or the referee will help us, it doesn't make any sense. We have to defend the gaol and play until the end."

On goalkeeper Melker Ellborg starting "He is doing well and stepping up in this Premier League. We are struggling a bit so it gives opportunities for young lads. They need time and support and it is important to feel the support. We need to help them rather than being negative."

"We quickly forget that last season we were in the Championship, we got promoted at the end. A young squad needs time, they need to struggle because you learn a lot in this time. We have another important fixture next week because we are excited by the event and we are looking forward to it [derby against Newcastle]."

Chelsea

More from Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior, speaking to Sky Sports: "We’re talking about one moment [for Newcastle in the entire game]. The rest of our press was very good. Newcastle couldn’t get out of their half. The first two thirds were good, but we’re going into the final third without that cutting edge.

"It just felt every time the ball bounced in the box, it bounced just behind of one of our players instead of in front of them. Reece [James] hit the post, but there was a lack of cutting edge and that’s something we need to work on.

"I give Eddie [Howe] and his team credit for the way they defended their box. It’s been a difficult period. Jamie Gittens is returning [from injury], we're without Estevao [Willian], Pedro [Neto]. It’s not an excuse, it’s a reality. We tried to change positions, but it wasn’t quite enough.

"[The players] are a good group. They’re hurting. We need to check up on them, make sure they’re physically prepared for PSG. That starts now.

"Up until 15 minutes to go against PSG, things were looking very good. There’s a consistency in our performance, but we haven’t managed to take advantage of the moments or the margins."

Everton

Everton boss David Moyes, speaking to BBC MOTD: "Absolutely cruel – the players didn't deserve that tonight. We put in a good shift and did a lot of good things, but we just didn't get quite over the line - disappointed.

"We tried to strengthen it up with boys going down with cramp, but the nature of the [first] goal."Jordan [Pickford] gets a bit of it, but he should probably get a bit more of it, but we must not forget the amount of great saves he has made for us.

"I don't think we deserved to go down to that type of goal. I think he had one good save in the first half, but it was offside, I think. I think their goalkeeper [David Raya] had a couple of brilliant saves.

"That one was sore because we felt as if this one was we could come here and challenge a lot of the top teams. The other part of me says 'I want us to go again'. We are going to have to win games like this if we're to keep ourselves in the top half of the league."

Joe Cole
Former Chelsea and England midfielder on TNT Sports

Losing arguably his best player in Crysencio Summerville would have been the only reason to change from a back four - but rather than going like for like to replace him, he tried to sure it up with a back five and it was absolutely brilliant.

Haaland, the best striker in the world, only had two chances. Brilliant.

Newcastle United

More from Anthony Gordon to Match of the Day about criticism for not starting the first leg against Barcelona: "Usually I don't like to clear stuff up because I don't care too much but this one does need clearing up because it was just nonsense.

"I didn't see but the stuff that the media guy told me was complete and utter stupidity. I was in bed for three days, missed training. I turned up on the day of the game, ready to start, I thought I was going to start.

"When I got to the stadium the manager told me I wasn't playing which I didn't like very much but that's his decision and the team played well.

"Saying I didn't want to play in the biggest game of my career is absolute nonsense. I think [Wayne] Rooney said I went past and didn't shake their hands and went into the changing room. I didn't. I got changed by myself in a changing room the size of this. It was just me and a sink.

"Complete nonsense. I think they need to do better at what they are doing."

Chelsea

Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "The result isn’t the one we wanted. We just lacked the cutting edge today. At the moment, the lads aren’t getting what they deserve. We need to find ways to have more quality in the final third.

"In the first 15 minutes we found Cole [Palmer] and Joao [Pedro] in really good positions. The goal knocked the wind out of our sails. Football’s about momentum and that goal gave them momentum.

"We tried to find a tactical solution rather than a personnel solution, and we didn’t do that this evening.

"Things aren’t always as great as you think they are when they’re going well, and things aren’t always as bad as they are when you’re going through a difficult spell. I can’t remember Rob [Sanchez] having much to do.

"We need to make sure the players recover. We need to monitor them and see who’s fresh [for PSG]."

On Chelsea players' huddles: "A lot of things are being made of it. To me, it’s a show of respect. It was disappointing to see the referee stood in the middle. I don’t know. It’s not in the rules. I don’t understand."

On Chelsea wanting a penalty for Nick Woltemade's foul on Palmer: "I don’t understand how it’s not overturned."

Everton

Everton boss David Moyes, speaking to Sky Sports: "Really, really disappointed that we didn't get something from the game.

"We definitely worked hard enough and earned it. Jordan [Pickford] could maybe do a bit better with the goal, but Jordan has made unbelievable saves for us that have won us games. Today we just needed it at the last minute when we needed him. Other than that, there are no problems at all. Lots of praise for the players.

"I thought Raya had more saves than Jordan tonight, and he kept a couple of great saves. The bigger thing for me was the block [Riccardo Calafiori]. It tells you a bit about how good they are defensively. They are wholly defending that goal. So you have to praise them for that.

"I thought both boys [Jake O'Brien and Michael Keane] done brilliantly well. Arsenal started the game brilliantly well, and they were right on it. But we did enough to keep them out and sort of got into the game a little bit."

On aiming for Europe: "It was a challenge for us to see if we could step into it and really test Arsenal. We have pushed Arsenal close in the two games. We are close enough to be thinking about it, but I am right up for the fight and the players are as well. We are going to win some big games in order to achieve it."
