Another consistent theme in the last few weeks - 'no regrets', 'don't die wondering'. I think the players have had a lot of conversations and still carry a lot of frustration about the last two Euros. Have they learned the lessons? They say they have.

We don't have long to wait to find out.

And off he goes.

How we feeling?

"I didn't want anything overhanging me in the World Cup.

"That was the one thing I was very clear on.

"I'm very happy that's been resolved and very happy with me going to Tottenham, but I've not given it too much thought this week."

"We hope we inspire the next generation to go out and kick a ball with their brother, mates or sister.

"I did that with my brother in the back garden and with my mates. Society and football it's become more expensive, but people can always kick a can down the road as they say.

"This is obviously on the world stage. We see back home how excited kids, parents and grandparents are.

"We just hope after the World Cup the buzz is still there."

In fairness to Clarke and his players, they are laying it on the line about becoming the first Scotland team to qualify from a group at a major championship.

I mean, it's 'easier' this time with so many third-placed teams going through, but their mantra has been very clear for many months. They're not hiding behind chat about 'performance' and 'let's see where that takes us'. That said, they've all been really relaxed in camp in Charlotte this week.

"He just wanted a bit of attention yesterday...

"Thankfully he's okay and he trained today. He's unbelievable. When he came in first he was playing centre back which is mad to think about now.

"I think he's shown his versatility. He made the tough decision to leave Man United and has gone over to Italy to be the best player in the league.

"He's quality has just got better and better.

"I can't speak highly enough of him."

"I've always just tried to lead by example," said the Spurs man.

"I give 100% in everything I do, always be respectful and I've tried to take that in.

"It's a weird thing but now everyone is desperate to come for their country and be a part of it. That's created a culture.

"The group of lads are a special group."

The burden on Scott McTominay to be the heart and soul of this team is huge, but it's a burden he seems to want to carry. He seems to relish the pressure of being The Man.

More from Robertson: "The last Euros was quite unique. We were in the opener against the host nation which is never an easy task.

"When it came we maybe weren't ready to go and strike.

"Now we're locked in, we're ready for tomorrow. All the training sessions are done."

He added: "I don't think we want any regreats.

"When I look back at the last two Euros you potentially look at certain games with regret.

"You never want to leave any match with regrets, that's the aim. That's never changed.

"We've done that really well over the last eight years in qualifying campaigns under the manager, but we need to do that in the tournament."

East Renfrewshire is now apparently called East Robboshire.

"IS IT!?"

"We're more experienced. Obviously the World Cup is a step up.

"We're excited but we also believe we're ready. Credit has to go to the backroom staff, they've made sure they've ticked every single box.

"It's up to us to now go and do the same thing.

"We've been working really hard in terms of qualified in the last six months to do things, be ready for the heat and the humidity. I believe we're best prepared."

"Right at the top," he said.

"I've been very fortunate to play in big games, win trophies, play for the biggest club in the world but for me playing for your country is that one step above.

"To do it at a World Cup is a dream come true.

"I'm so proud and happy this group are the ones who have done it."

On trust of a nation, Robertson added: "There will be nerves. There always is [among the fans].

"I do believe we've gained the trust of the nation, and I think we deserve that trust.

"If you look at that Denmark game, you don't get much more high pressure.

"But any team we are playing in this group deserves our respect as well."

And as quick as that, here comes Andy Robertson...

And off he goes. His parting shot a note of concern for my fellow journalist Robert Grieve who is nursing a rather nasty calf injury. God speed Robert.

So, don't get humped. Fair enough.

"I still haven't picked the team yet to be honest. The team don't know yet."

"Team selection is always difficult.

"It's going to be a squad world cup. The starting team is important. I think you'll find a lot of games the team that finishes will be just as important, if not more important."

Clarke added: "I've got my wife, three children and five grandchilden here. My two daughters in law, a big Clarke clan here.

"I'm going to try and enjoy it but the game will dictate that more than the circumstances.

"My third tournament. I feel I'm more attuned.

"It will be a really proud moment."

"I'm stuck in the dark ages I don't do much social media.

"The younger ones in the group are always showing me clips of back home.

"Everyone seems so excited. Let's hope we don't let them down."
