Another Will Ferry throw-in causes problems in the Rangers penalty box and Emmanuel Agyei cracks in a shot that is deflected wide.

  2. Postpublished at 20:31 BST

    Dundee United 0-0 Rangers

Dujon Sterling digs out a good cross and a stretching Ryan Naderi tries to steer a header into the bottom corner.

It might have just been missing the target but Jack Walton takes no chances with a sprawling save.

  3. Postpublished at 20:29 BST

    Dundee United 0-0 Rangers

Jesse Randall smashed his last corner straight out of play... This one is much better but there's no United player to meet it at the back post.

  4. Postpublished at 20:25 BST

    Dundee United 0-0 Rangers

A lovely first-time pass from Will Ferry sends Zac Sapsford scurrying forward but he doesn't have the pace to worry the Rangers defence and shoots off target after being forced wide.

  5. 'Brilliant challenge'published at 20:20 BST

    Dundee United 0-0 Rangers

    Steven Thompson
Former Dundee United & Rangers striker on BBC Sportsound

The pass from Vicko Sevelj was unbelievable, absolutely sensational.

Just as Lachlan Rose is about to pull the trigger, it's a brilliant challenge to stop him.

  6. Postpublished at 20:19 BST

    Dundee United 0-0 Rangers

It looks like Lachlan Rose is going to squeeze through a gap in the Rangers defence but Emmanuel Fernandez eats up the ground with a lunging tackle to save the day for his side.

  7. Postpublished at 20:17 BST

    Dundee United 0-0 Rangers

Good pace and strength from Ryan Naderi as the Rangers forward sets up a shooting chance for Lawrence Shankland. The ball then breaks back to Naderi and his low strike is held by Jack Walton.

Evan @19.53 is spot on. Fans with rattles and jumpers for goalposts too!

  9. Postpublished at 20:13 BST

    Dundee United 0-0 Rangers

Two corners in quick succession for Rangers. Thelo Aasgaard takes them both and neither amount to anything.

  10. Postpublished at 20:11 BST

    Dundee United 0-0 Rangers

Two more Will Ferry throw-ins. The second comes back to the United left-back but his low drive is blocked.

  11. Formations fluidpublished at 20:10 BST

    Dundee United 0-0 Rangers

    Andy Halliday
Former Rangers midfielder on BBC Sportsound

It almost looks as if Rangers are rolling into a back five out of possession with Djeidi Gassama as a wing-back and Dujon Sterling on the other side.

Then in possession it's a diamond.

  12. Postpublished at 20:08 BST

    Dundee United 0-0 Rangers

Will Ferry shells a long throw-in into the Rangers penalty box but there are so many bodies in there and the ball is eventually cleared away by the visitors.

  13. Postpublished at 20:06 BST

    Dundee United 0-0 Rangers

From the resulting corner, the ball breaks to Cammy Devlin near the edge of the box but the little Rangers midfielder can only smash a shot wide.

  14. Postpublished at 20:05 BST

    Dundee United 0-0 Rangers

Thelo Aasgaard drives Rangers up the park and Ryan Naderi pings in a low pass for Lawrence Shankland to flick on target near the front post.

Jack Walton needs to look lively to push the ball round the post.

  15. KICK-OFFpublished at 20:01 BST

    Dundee United 0-0 Rangers

Nick Walsh peeps his whistle and season 2026-27 is under way in the Scottish Premiership.

  18. What happened last season?published at 19:55 BST

    Dundee United v Rangers (20:00)

With Dundee United not making the top six, there was only one meeting at Tannadice in 2025-26 and it ended in a 2-2 draw.

In early December, United led twice through Zac Sapsford and Amar Fatah, with Jayden Meghoma and Nedim Bajrami replying each time, the latter from the penalty spot deep into stoppage time.

Either side of that game, there was another 2-2 and a 4-2 home win at Ibrox.

Jamie @19:33 is spot on. We need to bring in a new rule for Scottish Prem. 6 home based players must be in the side.

    Dundee United v Rangers (20:00)

There's a lot of online chatter about the lack of Scots involved on the first day of the season - just one in each starting XI.

Not many on the benches either.
