Arsenal are coming up against sides with a good defensive structure at the moment and at times you need a little bit of magic to open them up, but that is not always going to be a guarantee. I think teams are doing quite well against them defensively at the moment.

If you can hit teams in transition you can create tonnes of good opportunities - that's not really the way Arsenal have been playing at this moment in time, but it's not to say that they can't do that because we have seen them do it before.

Saint or Sinner: Well done, Arsenal. Maybe not a classic game but you are in a CL semi-final. Yes, you now have to choose between going for the Premier League and the Champions League. Many clubs would consider it a nice problem to have. Good luck on both fronts.

  4. 'Making the semis is very special'published at 23:08 BST 15 April

FT: Arsenal 0-0 Sporting (1-0 agg)

    Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to TNT Sports on what making the semi-final means to the club: "It's a massive moment. It's the first time in our history, in 140 years that we are on back-to-back semi-finals, so to be part of those four teams is something very special. You have to earn it. You have to go through a lot of work. Gratitude to the players.

"I think the last 15/20 minutes we controlled the game really well. We set ourselves in the final third. We looked composed. We looked controlled in transitions except the last one. Overall, it's a great night. I'm happy for all our people."

On how he helps his side believe they can win: "It comes down to making the last step. We are making steps that haven't been done in this club for 140 years, the players deserve credit for what they're doing. What I love is the ownership the players took after the defeat here against Bournemouth. They sat together, they analysed it, they said things face-to-face. They act on it. At the end you have to do it on the pitch. We can talk in the dressing room. We can talk beautiful things but we need to put those words into actions and we certainly done that tonight."

On facing Atletico Madrid next: "I watched them yesterday. That stadium is special. Those are the moments we want to live together as a team right now, so enjoy tonight. Tomorrow we will start to prepare for the weekend and then we will think about that."

I don't know how long Bukayo Saka is going to be out, but he does seem like a key player to me. He is different to anything that Arsenal has in that final third.

Get him back, and I think they will stand a far stronger chance of being more effective at the top end of the pitch.

  7. Arsenal 'robust enough' to handle Man City 'challenges'published at 23:02 BST 15 April

FT: Arsenal 0-0 Sporting (1-0 agg)

    Nedum Onuoha
Former Manchester City defender on MOTD: Uefa Champions League

Arsenal will arrive there knowing it is going to be a very, very tough away fixture at Manchester City, but they know they are robust enough to handle those sorts of challenges.

If things go their way and if some of their key players have big games and big moments, then this could be the pivotal game for them in what has been a season that is getting tougher and tougher as every week passes.

Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane, speaking after their win over Real Madrid: "I'm feeling good, feeling tired. It was a tough game, very physical. To finish the way we did was special to be a part of. I think over the two ties we deserved the win and we can enjoy the win."

On red card: "There were decisions that went against us the whole game and the rules are the rules. It was a clear yellow card, I've had a couple of those in my career that have affected me. The referee has to make a decision there and it went our way today."

On confidence boost: "When you beat a team like Real, especially in the later stages of the Champions League, it will give you confidence. But we have spoken about this all year, being at this stage being in all the competitions and this is the time to push on. We feel we can beat anyone when at our highest level and we'll need that in the next round because PSG are one of the best teams in Europe. We have a chance to win the league this weekend so hopefully we can get that done and we have a big semi-final in the cup. Plenty of big games plenty to play for."

You can't add any more plaudits Harry Kane. 50 goals is phenomenal. He's doing it season in, a season out. The Ballon d'Or dream is alive. It will damage Mbappe and Vinicius going forward. He'll leave here with a big smile on his face.

An element of sour grapes. Real Madrid go out, so just blame the referee. Blame a conspiracy. That was quite incredible, wasn't it? Aren't they bad losers?

This will have consequences tomorrow. The club will say and do something.

Everybody has seen the second yellow to Eduardo Camavinga.

You cannot give this second yellow card in the Champions League, in the last minute when both teams equalised, you cannot give this second yellow card.

You can see the players go against the referee after the match. Even Arda Guler was sent off for protesting. I think the club will say and do something.

This second yellow has no sense. You are in the best competition in the world and you cannot have this behaviour.

A draw which papers over the cracks for Arsenal. Offered nothing in attack all game and looked unsteady at the back. Manchester City will expose them again this weekend and the wheels will fall off!

Both teams were brilliant going forward tonight, but defensively both have been poor. If you want to win the Champions League, can you play like that? It is going to be fascinating to see how that pans out when Bayern face Paris St-Germain.

On whether Alvaro Arbeloa is under pressure...

No, the name is vintage. Today and tonight and the next days all will be focusing on the referee of tonight's match.

I think Arbeloa will be used in the second stage, but I don't think Madridistas will blame Arbeloa because they were equalising the round and only a second yellow card for Camavinga, I think, made the balance go to Bayern Munich.

Tony: Well done Arteta. To win this competition you have to be tight and not concede. Bayern score plenty, but concede too many. PSG must be favourites, but they only just beat Arsenal last season and it will be close if they meet in the final this time.
