  1. 'Fixtures designed to avoid clashes with Uefa competitions'published at 11:11 BST

    Premier League

There will be 33 rounds of weekend fixtures during the new Premier League season, with the remaining five taking place midweek.

The Premier League has said next season's schedule will be designed to "avoid domestic competition clashes with Uefa competition dates, wherever possible".

During the Christmas and New Year period, no two rounds of matches will take place within 60 hours of each other, in keeping with commitments made to clubs to address the congested schedule during that period.

  2. Who will newly promoted Hull City face?published at 11:06 BST

Hull City make their return to the Premier League next season after winning the play-off final, which was overshadowed by the Spygate saga.

The players were sent off to Las Vegas by owner Acun Ilicali to mark promotion, but the party was cut short after they were faced with a possible six-point deduction.

The Tigers must now sell players before the end of the month to avoid a potential points deduction in the Premier League.

Hull have an overspend of about £6m on their profit and sustainability (PSR) calculation.

Their first match will take place against Manchester United, and their first away fixture will be against fellow promoted side Coventry City.

Sergej Jakirovic's side face Liverpool (H), Leeds United (H), Sunderland (A) and Nottingham Forest (A) over the Christmas and New Year period.

And they end their league season with a home fixture against Newcastle United.

    Hull City first five fixtures:

    • Manchester United (H)
    • Coventry City (A)
    • Aston Villa (H)
    • Chelsea (A)
    • Newcastle United (A)

It is no surprise to see Coventry given the Premier League opener at Arsenal.

Their first top flight match for 25 years will see the Championship title winners against the Premier League champions and shows the Sky Blues they are back in the big time.

It can be viewed as a daunting start with a trip to Manchester City on 5 September but the visit of Hull to the CBS Arena for their first home game of the season will be a special occasion.

It is also an immediate reminder of the fight for survival with the Tigers, play-off winners, and the Sky Blues two of the favourites for an instant return to the Championship. Victory in that game is vital for both sides.

The visit of Aston Villa on 12 December will be a grudge match for Coventry fans, their Midlands rivals having sent them down in 2001.

Frank Lampard's side were fearless and free scoring title winners last season and they will take that confidence into the new season.

Arsenal and Man City as the first two away games..... that one really stings. With a bit of luck (and a good transfer window) we can make a bit of ourselves, but it's a tough pair of games in the early season.

The season's curtain raiser on Friday, 21 August sees the Sky Blues play their first top-flight match in 25 years against the Gunners, who were led to their first Premier League title since 2004 by Mikel Arteta.

Frank Lampard's side face Chelsea (H), Brentford (H), Liverpool (A) and Ipswich (A) over the Christmas and New Year period.

They end their league season against Nottingham Forest at home.

In a 34-year stay in the top flight last time out, the Sky Blues became masters of the late escape - securing survival on the final day of the season 10 times. Will they be able to do the same again this season?

Rather than the traditional three two-week international breaks during the opening months of the Premier League season, there will now be two.

September and October's international breaks will merge into a new three-week break beginning after the weekend of September 19/20.

Meanwhile, November's two-week international break will remain.

  14. Will Andoni Iraola start off strong at Liverpool?published at 10:26 BST

    Liverpool

Andoni Iraola became Liverpool boss after a record breaking season at Bournemouth.

Iraola confirmed in April he would leave the Cherries at the end of the season - with an 18-game unbeaten run that saw Bournemouth finish sixth and achieve European football for the first time.

He has often overachieved, with Bournemouth securing a club-record finish in each of his three campaigns, but will he be able to follow suit and gain success at Liverpool?

The spaniard starts life on Merseyside with two home games and three away games- including a return to the Vitality Stadium in September.

  16. Will Newcastle v Liverpool clash be another Premier League classic?published at 10:20 BST

Liverpool's Rio Ngumoha made history as the youngest scorer in the club's history when he struck with virtually the last kick of a breathless encounter against Newcastle United last August.

New Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola will want to start off his tenure with a bang, whilst Eddie Howe will want to get the Magpies faithful back on his side after a dissapointing campaign last time out.

Could it be another Premier League classic or one to forget?

The opening day of the 2026–27 season is Saturday, 22 August.

The new season will kick off 90 days after the previous campaign concluded, with Arsenal lifting the Premier League trophy on 24 May and 34 days on from the World Cup final in the United States.
