We said how key Chelsea's wide players are you've just seen there from Thompson.

She's just so athletic, she's got that real chance of pace but then she's got the end product at the end of it.

Roma defender Elisabetta Oliviero has an issue after making a tackle, so the physios come on.

You look at it and think Chelsea are clear favourites coming into it. They're at home, they've had a really positive start to the season but Roma will look to be very well-organised off the ball, they'll look to hit Chelsea on the counter-attack, maybe try and expose that high back-line if they can.

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Sonia Bompastor speaking to Disney+ about going into the game as favourites: "Again I think we come into every game with a lot of focus, we want to perform with our standards and there is no easy game. I think in this competition it’s becoming more competitive every season and I think there are no easy games or easy teams to play against. I think you can only say that maybe at the end of the game when you have done your job and put a really good performance on the pitch, that's what we are hoping for."

On whether it’s an opportunity to make a statement: "We want to win the game. We want to put a strong performance on the pitch tonight. I think right now we have four points, we really wanna take the three points from the game today. We are very much aware about the quality Roma has in their team, as a team but also as individuals. They are having a good run of results in their league, probably different competition, the Champions League for them but they played a really strong side with Barcelona as well so yeah we'll see but we are really focusing on ourselves as well. We want to get back to having a really consistent performance tonight from minute one until the end of the game."

  15. A chance for Beever-Jones and captain Cuthbertpublished at 17:39 GMT

    Chelsea v Roma (17:45 GMT)

    Emma Sanders
BBC Sport women’s football news reporter at Plough Lane

Sonia Bompastor was speaking very positively about Chelsea's start to the season yesterday.

Since that opening weekend draw against Aston Villa, Chelsea have won all of their matches in the WSL and the Champions League.

They have had to grind out their results in Europe though so Bompastor is keen for a more complete performance tonight.

She has rotated the squad with a busy November schedule on the cards but it's a chance for some of those on the fringes.

England striker Aggie Beever-Jones has struggled to have an impact since Melvine Malard's arrival in the summer.

But she starts tonight and will fancy her chances against a Roma team who are expected to come out and play, leaving potential spaces.

Erin Cuthbert is also back to full fitness and captains the team from the start for the first time since she was officially given the armband.

She admitted yesterday it is a "different feeling" and one she was excited for, and hopes to show full responsibility with.

After going top of the WSL table over the weekend, this evening Chelsea will be hoping to take a big step to qualifying for the Champions League knockouts.

Sonia Bompastor's side have four points from two games, after beating Austria Wien 1-0 and drawing 0-0 with Lyon.

Tonight they face a Roma side who are yet to score in Europe this season, after drawing 0-0 with Leuven and suffering a 6-0 thrashing by Barcelona.

    Plough Lane Stadium

It's new surroundings for Chelsea in the Women's Champions League this season after they made Stamford Bridge their WSL home.

Plough Lane is where they are welcoming European opposition and Roma arrived nice and early to check out the surroundings.

There were lots of conversations going on with Chelsea's Giulia Dragoni, who spent time at Roma on loan for a few seasons.

She enjoyed her time there and attracted the attention of Sonia Bompastor.

However, she has struggled to get game time since her move from Barcelona in the summer.

She's on the bench today and will be hoping she gets the call to come on against her former club and make an impact.

    Chelsea

During her pre-match media conference on Tuesday, Chelsea boss Sonia Bompastor spoke about the improving quality of opposition in the Women's Champions League: "We know the Champions League has a different level and the competition is becoming even more difficult.

"Many teams are able to put in really good performances and, as you could see when we opened the competition against Austria Vienna, it was a tough game because they were brave enough to man-mark us and to expose us to some challenges.

"We found a way to win, but we want to control every game as much as we can, no matter which competition we're playing in."
