    Blackburn 0-0 Coventry

As you might expect there's a cracking atmosphere at Ewood Park, both fans having a sing-song and a real carnival atmosphere in that packed away end with balloons and beach-balls flying about, one of which made it onto the pitch.

Let's hope for no Darren Bent repeats tonight, though, please...

It's not going to one of those nights, is it!? It's was pinball in there, one, two, three, four shots, one of them had go in.

    Good start from Coventry.

    Blackburn 0-0 Coventry

Glimpse of goal for the Sky Blues as Ephron Mason-Clark pounces on a loose ball in the Rovers half and drives forward, only to see a 20-yard blast charged down.

The subsequent Milan van Ewijk long throw causes chaos and City have a couple of shots bravely blocked in the goalmouth.

11,164 days ago, I sat inside Ewood Park and saw Alan Shearer score a hat-trick as Rovers thumped Coventry 5-1. No chance of a repeat tonight. Happy for Coventry to make it back up. New owners are urgently needed for Rovers to do similar.

Sat with (and declined a beer from) some Cov fans on my way to work in Manchester this morning. Hope they’ve taken it steady enough to remember the match.

It's been 25 really long years, none of us really thought it would a take quarter of a century.

We've had issues and trials, but this group of players are really close now.

Sitting at home to watch the game with my step-dad's scarf on. He sadly passed away a few years ago, he would have loved this. Hopefully they can do it tonight. PUSB

Re: 19:14 Made my CCFC-mad dad a single Sky Blue pickled onion for Christmas last year and he's been saving it to eat for if they get promoted. Fingers crossed he'll be having that for his dinner this evening.

The Coventry fans started filling the Darwen End 40 minutes before kick-off and their heroes in their fluorescent orange came out to warm up in front of them.

The supporters brought Sky Blue balloons and they were determined to start the party this evening after their celebrations were put on hold last Saturday when relegated Sheffield Wednesday spoilt their fun at the CBS Arena.

They were not just content with promotion and sang ‘We’re going to win the league’. They hold a 10-point advantage over second-placed Ipswich and could stretch that to 13 tonight if they win.

Blackburn were almost the unwelcome guests to Coventry’s party at their own stadium and still need results from their last three games, starting this evening, to be safe.

Rovers tried to make a statement in their penultimate home game of the season and honoured seven former players, including 1995 Premier League title-winning skipper Tim Sherwood, before kick-off as part of their 150th anniversary celebrations.

Frank Lampard said to me he's a different head coach to the one that was at Derby, which is of course where he started out.

There's been blips but he deserves an enormous amount of credit for what he's done since November 2024.

It's been absolutely phenomenal, they've been consistently the best team in the league and they deserve to go up as champions.

Hopefully - and fingers crossed - that trophy will have some sky blue ribbons on it in a couple of weeks.

Michael O’Neill has made three changes to the Rovers side which went down 3-0 at Southampton on Tuesday night.

Eiran Cashin returns to the defence with Ryoya Morishita and Yuki Ohashi recalled in attack.

Harry Pickering, Nathan Redmond and Mathias Jorgensen drop to the bench, where they are joined by fit-again Adam Forshaw.

Frank Lampard has made two changes to the Sky Blues XI which drew 0-0 with Sheffield Wednesday at the CBS Arena last Saturday.

There looks to be a switch in formation too as Bobby Thomas returns at the back and Ellis Simms is handed a start up top, with Haji Wright and Brandon Thomas-Asante named among the replacements.

The Sky Blues may have steamrollered their way through much of this 2025-26 Championship season, but since a run of six straight wins in February and March, they have seemingly slowed to a cruise as the finishing line approaches.

City bounced back from the home defeat by Southampton on 14 March with back-to-back wins over Swansea and Derby, but have drawn their past two 0-0, at Hull on Easter Monday and at home to basement-boys Sheffield Wednesday last Saturday.

They might be 19 places below and 37 points worse-off in the table but Blackburn were actually in better recent form than Coventry until three days ago.

Rovers took nine points from five games, winning at Millwall and Birmingham and drawing at Stoke last Saturday, in addition to goalless home draws with Middlesbrough and West Brom.

However, a 3-0 defeat at St Mary's on Tuesday night means they have scored just twice in their past five games and remain too close to the drop zone for comfort.

    • Blackburn are winless in their past 10 league games against Coventry (D5 L5), since a 4-0 away victory in October 2020.
    • Coventry have kept a clean sheet in their past five league games against Blackburn – they have never gone six without conceding against an opponent, while only against Chelsea have Rovers had a longer goalless run (seven between 2006 and 2009).
    • Each of Blackburn's past three home league games have ended level, with the last two ending goalless. They last drew four consecutive home league matches in May 1988 (4).
    • Accounting for three points per win all-time, Coventry's 85 points this season is already their most in a single league campaign in the club's history. The Sky Blues will be promoted to the Premier League if they avoid defeat in this match, last featuring in the top flight in 2001.
    • Haji Wright has scored 16 goals in the Championship this season, his joint-most in a single campaign for the club (also 16 in 2023-24). Only Viktor Gyokeres has netted more than 16 times in a Championship season for the Sky Blues (21 in 2022-23, 17 in 2021-22).

For two seasons, Coventry managed to escape relegation (being managed by Gordon Strachan - if my memory is still what used to be). It will be fantastic if they can replicate what they did those two seasons before they went down.

    Wesley, Tanzania

It’ll be good to see an old face return to the top table. Coventry were once a solid mid-table team. Then turmoil. Perhaps they can stay up under Frank Lampard. He didn’t get enough time during an untidy period for Chelsea. Let’s see what Coventry can bring.

The bigger picture here is that Frank Lampard will want to go up as Champions and three points would go a long way towards that.

But football doesn't always work like that, get a point here, get a win there...

  20. Would three points save Rovers?published at 19:41 BST

    Blackburn v Coventry (20:00 BST)

A four-point gap doesn't feel particularly comfortable going into the final few games of the season, but an unexpected win for Blackburn tonight would not only poop the Coventry promotion party (temporarily, at least), it would also give Rovers' survival chances a massive shot in the arm.

They have played a game more than the sides chasing them, but with Sheffield United (away) and Leicester (home) to finish the season, three points would pile the pressure on chasers Oxford United, Leicester and West Brom, who lie fourth bottom, two points above the U's and behind Rovers.

When asked if one more win from their final three games would be enough for Blackburn to stay up, O'Neill told BBC Radio Lancashire it would not put them mathematically safe but would "take a little bit of the pressure out of the situation".

"It would give us 51 points," he said. "It would put Oxford seven points behind us and it would put Leicester 10 points behind us, which is a lot to get in your last four games.

"But I'm not going to put any sort of target on it because we've got to make sure that we take whatever we can in the final three games, as many points as possible."
