This is beautiful play from Ecuador. They open the Ivory Coast up and crash the crossbar for the second time now. They should be ahead.

  2. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 30 mins

    Ivory Coast 0-0 Ecuador

Ecuador are denied by the crossbar for the second time.

This time it’s Alan Minda who rattles the woodwork after a sublime defence-splitting pass from Pedro Vite.

Is it going to be one of the days for the South American side?!

Hydration breaks for the heat? Yes. Three minute timeouts for commercials and tactical instructions? No.

I find the water break really frustrating. If you are going to have one, take the managers out of it. They shouldn't be able to come on the pitch and make tactical changes. It's not what it is about, it is about making sure players are re-hydrated.

Terrific, wasn't it? There was a mix-up at the back, allowing the ball to bounce. The he just stole it, cut inside and thrashed it off the crossbar.

And with that, we have the first water break of the game.

Three minutes for the players to refresh and cool down - certainly not time for the managers to pass on vital information and provide tactical tweaks...

Ecuador are denied an opener by the woodwork as the lively John Yeboah rattles the crossbar with another effort from the right!

From one end to the other!

Ivory Coast race straight up the other end and almost take the lead with an effort from Bazoumana Toure.

On a second look, it was actually a wonderful save from goalkeeper Hernan Galindez to tip the ball around the post.

Ecuador are threatening again. This time, John Yeboah picks up the ball on the right before cutting inside and firing narrowly over from outside the area.

It has been a strong start from the South American side. It is no wonder they are 19 games unbeaten.

The ball had actually left the field. Even if he had hit the back of the net, that would have been pulled back.

    How has he missed?

Enner Valencia fires over a glorious opportunity from inside the area after a slip by an Ivory Coast defender.

If there was one man Ecuador would have wanted that chance to fall to, it was the 36-year-old - and he’s fluffed his lines!

Most of Yan Diomande's touches have come deep in the Ecuador half so far.

Ivory Coast will want to get him involved further up the pitch, such is pace and trickery in the final third.

I think this could be a brilliant game with the plethora of talent out there.

I hope Ecuador show a little bit more teeth up front and come out of their shape a bit more, but I wouldn't be suprised if they sit in and make life very difficult for Ivory Coast.

It has taken less than two minutes for the first effort of the game, as Ecuador midfielder Moises Caicedo drags his shot from outside the area wide of the post.
