  1. Thank you and goodnightpublished at 22:50 BST 20 August

We'll leave it there for tonight.

A decent night for the four Scottish sides in action, as Rangers win and Hearts and Hibs draw in their quest for Conference League football.

Motherwell took an early lead through Regan Charles-Cook before Freiburg's quality shone through at Fir Park.

We'll be back on Saturday for live coverage of the Dundee derby, but until then, goodbye.

  2. 'We've still got a lot of work to do' - McInnespublished at 22:46 BST 20 August

    FT: Rangers 1-0 Jablonec

Rangers head coach Derek McInnes tells BBC Scotland: "I was disappointed with a lot of the first half, we didn't have any real impetus or concerted pressure.

"We needed to bring a bit more intelligence but also be a bit more enthusiastic with some of our tempo. I thought we were far better in the second half, we connected the game better and gave us a far better chance of causing them problems. I don't think they caused us too many problems in terms of goalmouth chances.

"Djeidi Gassama has got to score and make it two, that's a big moment.

"The red card changed it because then it was about trying to manage the last 15-20 minutes of the game. The positives are a clean sheet, another win, another goal for Ryan Naderi and we've got something to take to the Czech Republic.

"We've still got a lot of work to do but in the meantime it's important we win games. The enthusiasm and work rate was there in bucket loads but we need to show a wee bit more composure and poise."

  4. 'We showed the next step'published at 22:35 BST 20 August

    FT: Hearts 2-2 Rapid Vienna

Hearts head coach Wouter Vrancken tells BBC Scotland:"Yeah, like you said, it's open, and you can see that it's also a good side we play against.

"I think we showed the next step today, I'm really proud of the players because not only were the intentions good with the ball, but there was a lot of energy, intensity in the game and also without the ball.

"When I see the numbers now, physical parameters, it's nice to see because I think they never did it before and we're making steps in that way also.

"That's what I like to see, an energetic style of play.

"They did really good today, especially in the second half and coming back from 0-1 is also showing the mentality they have and the team spirit they show without panicking, just play the game, do the things with the game plan we wanted to play.

"Like I said, I'm really proud of the players, it's just a pity that we don't have the bonus [goal] to go to Vienna next week."

    FT: Hearts 2-2 Rapid Vienna

    Andy Halliday
Former Hearts midfielder on BBC Sportsound

I felt like Hearts needed a win tonight to take to Austria.

Hearts for me are the opposite of Hibs. They look really really fragile defensively, even though they are blistering at times going forwards.

  7. Postpublished at 22:22 BST 20 August

    FT: Hearts 2-2 Rapid Vienna

On Hearts, they have now conceded 19 goals in eight games this season.

It's an issue Wouter Vrancken simply has to fix.

Ryan Naderi had probably his best game in a Rangers shirt. Never stopped running, got Rangers up the park, took his goal. If only he'd got his studs on that first half chance.

  9. 'A mixture of disappointment and being proud' - Johanssonpublished at 22:15 BST 20 August

    FT: Motherwell 1-3 Freiburg

Motherwell manager Alfred Johansson tells BBC Scotland: “It's a mixture of disappointment and being proud.

“I think we spoke before the game that we wanted to see a team with a certain strong mentality, a certain bravery to play our game, and I think we saw that today.

“I think the start to the first half was brilliant.

“Then we have a period where we are a little bit too protective, which then ends with us actually turning it around again for the end of the first half, which I think was impressive from the players.

“I think the start to the second half is good.

“Then obviously some things happen throughout the game, which makes the result not so good for us.

“That's where the disappointment comes from, obviously.

“I think that's me talking to you now straight after the game, and I'm pretty sure that when I watch the game back that the sense of pride will take over.”

It was all about the occasion for Motherwell and a recognition of how far the club have come in the past year.

The fans have a memory for the rest of their lives, getting a goal inside two minutes against the Europa League finalists.

  11. Elding 'has belief' to recover from penalty misspublished at 22:10 BST 20 August

    FT: Gent 0-0 Hibernian

Hibs' boss David Gray also mentioned Owen Elding, the youngster who missed Hibs' penalty, and said it's "everyone's job" to put an arm round his shoulder.

"He's still just a young boy," Gray said. "He apologised straight away as soon as he came off the pitch and I said to him, 'if that's the last penalty you miss in your career, it's been an outstanding career'.

"He's got the confidence and belief in himself to go and take it. He's been full of confidence in the last few weeks. I look more at that.

"He's a really hard working, humble boy, but football changes very quickly. If he gets an opportunity next week, he might win the game for us."

    Tonight was vital for Hibs.

They will fancy themselves big style at Easter Road. Going away in Europe and getting a clean sheet isn't easy and they have done it in back-to-back ties.

Two wins, two draws and only one loss, not a bad week for Scottish football. Hoping Motherwell can turn it around next week then five teams in European league phase to help the coefficient.

  14. 'A brilliant away performance'published at 22:00 BST 20 August

    FT: Gent 0-0 Hibernian

Hibernian head coach David Gray tells BBC Scotland: "A brilliant away performance at this stage. The player executed the game plan well, managed it well, third clean sheet in a row as well.

"It's a really good start to the tie, we've kept it alive and it's all to play for in the second leg.

"One thing we can't do is affect things that happen in the past. These things happen, we've missed the penalty. What I like is the reaction from that, real control in the game.

"We didn't carry enough threat, but the players showed real courage and we were worth the clean sheet. Massive performance and massive result, away from home in Europe against a very good side."

  16. 'Poor Rangers performance'published at 21:53 BST 20 August

    FT: Rangers 1-0 Jablonec

    Andy Halliday
Former Rangers midfielder on BBC Sportsound

I think Derek McInnes will be delighted with the clean sheet and there looked fairly comfortable.

They defended well, but other than that 20 minute spell at the start of the second half, I thought it was a really poor performance.

What Cammy Devlin is doing, I cannot comprehend it. They can have no complaints about the red card.

Another good away result in Europe for Hibs. Will people start to appreciate how good Hibs have been away against higher ranked opposition in the past decade? Wins against Partizan, Brondby and Legia Warsaw (in 90 min), draws against Midtjylland, shkendija Asteras, Luzern and now Gent. Yes there's been blips against lower ranked sides but an impressive away record for any Scottish side.

  19. FULL-TIME Rangers 1-0 Jablonecpublished at 21:41 BST 20 August

Not the greatest performance from Rangers but it's job done for the first leg of their Conference League play-off as they take a narrow one goal lead to the Czech Republic next week.

Ryan Naderi's goal was well-worked by the hosts and they were probably unlucky not to have had a second minutes later when Djeidi Gassama fired over.

Still plenty to play for in Jablonec but Rangers are in the driving seat.

  20. FULL-TIME - Hearts 2-2 Rapid Viennapublished at 21:40 BST 20 August

A disappointing end for Hearts, after a superb flurry at the start of the second half took them from 1-0 down to 2-1 in front.

The brilliant Josh McPake scored via a deflection, and then teenager James Wilson ripped in one of the goals of the season from 30 yards.

But Rapid stayed calm, built their way back into the game, and Nikolaus Wurmbrand drilled home an equaliser, to go with Serge-Philippe Raux-Yao's powerful first-half header.

All to play for in Austria next week.
