It was painfully clear how much England missed Morgan Gibbs‑White, for the game against Ghana and it cried out for Trent Alexander‑Arnold. Leaving both out and not including Lewis Hall feels utterly unjustified. I struggle to understand why Thomas Tuchel has shown such a baffling and appalling lack of judgment.

The decision not to take Trent seems more and more baffling. He's a better defender than he's given credit for, plus he has the elite-level passing and playmaking that can help unlock the well organised defensive units, like the one we suffered against Ghana.

Given an awful lot of people saw this coming (two very injury-prone RBs, no actual LBs at all), Tuchel's defensive picks look ever more baffling and not what we need for a run to the latter stages.
