When Arsenal went unbeaten to lift the Premier League trophy in 2003-04 - resulting in them being dubbed 'The Invincibles' - they would not have believed it would take them almost a quarter of a century to win the title again.

"I've got married, had a child, who's now a teenager, and got divorced, all since Arsenal last won the league," Gunners fan Matt said on the BBC Sport live text commentary page.

To finally see that long wait ended prompted some fans to mark it in different ways, some more questionable than others.

Gunners supporter Barry wrote: "I've got a can of lager from 2021 commemorating the 1971 double. I said I wasn't drinking it until Arsenal won the league. It's five years out of date, wish me luck."

While other fans are looking to the future, the dream of a double is still on as Arsenal face Paris St-Germain in the Champions League final on 30 May.

"I am confident that we are going to do it," Gunners fan Chloe said on BBC Radio 5 Live.

"PSG are very worthy opponents. But I feel there is that edge and hunger and on our day... I feel that this is our time."

Mikel Arteta may well choose to wrap up his key players in cotton wool before the Champions League final on Saturday, 30 May.

He just has to round them up first...

I am 66 years old and have supported Arsenal all my life. I am so proud of our team. Well done to players and manager. Bring home the Champions League cup now, you can do it. Be proud, first big win in 22 years. Supporters so proud of our team.

Now we can give the players a rest against Palace (mental and physical) in the run-up to Budapest. Rice, Raya, Saka, Gabriel and Saliba in particular need to be cotton-wooled until the 30th. Timber coming back would be massive as well. COYG

You both made it into work Mark? That's impressive.

Did you see Declan Rice and the crew on your walk in?

Let's have a thumbs up from everyone who made it into work sporting their Gunners kit and a smug grin.

And a thumbs down from those of you who just turned off your alarm, called in sick then picked up your phone and started scrolling...

  7. 'Arsenal have got it over the line and shown resilience'published at 09:50 BST

    BBC 5 Live Breakfast

Former Arsenal defender Matthew Upson speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast about the Gunners avoiding the title race going to the final day: "The first thing I thought, I looked at the players and I thought now they don't have to think about that game [against Crystal Palace] and from a player perspective, you obviously love those moments, that's what you get out of bed for, for the pressure of that game.

"But there is also a relief that somebody has opened the pressure valve and they have done it and don't have to worry about going to a tricky fixture at Crystal Palace that can produce anything on the day.

"I think that certainly is an emotion the players feel along with the emotion of being Premier League champions. They have got it over the line and it puts to bed that noise that they are bottlers to a degree. They've shown the resilience to get through that sticky patch certainly in March and April."

On Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Jurrien Timber and Eberechi Eze being pictured outside the ground at 05:00 BST: "There's probably only one way you're going to get away with that and it's the evening you have been crowned Premier League champions after 22 years. I think we can cut them a little bit of slack."

Winning the title for the first time in 22 years was always going to trigger a huge party.

But how about the relief of not having to go to Selhurst Park on Sunday needing to get a result?

I was 17 when we last won the title. There were times I doubted it would ever happen again. But I always had faith in Arteta to get it right. The world feels a little brighter today. Now, on to Budapest.

  11. 'The progression has been tremendous'published at 09:30 BST

Former Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart believes Arsenal are reaping the rewards for the patience they have shown manager Mikel Arteta.

The Gunners finished second for three consecutive seasons under the Spaniard but kept the faith and have now finally achieved the ultimate goal.

Not only that, but they will also take part in the Champions League final for only the second time in their history later this month.

A blueprint for others moving forward?

  14. 'Arteta has stamped his identity on the football club'published at 09:22 BST

    Matthew Upson
    Former Arsenal defender

What an achievement. Mikel Arteta - how much has he wanted this title?

He has been desperate alongside everyone associated with the football club. They've done it in their own style, a different way, but they've achieved something absolutely incredible. What a night for Arsenal.

They have done it in a way that has drawn attention and a lot of criticism but who am I to judge how someone wins a Premier League title? The point is, they've done it their way.

There's been some narrow wins, scruffy performances, but that's what it takes. If you can get it over the line with the quality that is in the Premier League at the moment then it is a major achievement.

Arteta has been desperate for it, it's a big body of work to get them to this place. I'm very happy for him in particular.

He has stamped his identity on the football club and was confident enough, brave enough and bold enough to go into that process. There's been bumps along the way, and this season, but the group has overcome it.

The strength of the squad has been unmatched in terms of depth and quality. Credit to the manager for utilising it right and getting the job done.

    BBC 5 Live Breakfast

Football correspondent John Murray spoke earlier on BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast about Arsenal's title win: "I feel that Mikel Arteta has been on the end of quite a lot of ridicule and Declan Rice after Arsenal lost to Manchester City just a few weeks ago.

"The feeling was then that Arsenal were going to come up short again, that it would Manchester City who would prevail. Remember Declan Rice being pictured on the pitch and his lips were red and he said 'it's not done'. It turns out Declan Rice was right and a lot of people were wrong."

  16. Dowman becomes youngest Premier League title winnerpublished at 09:12 BST

Teenage midfielder Max Dowman has become the youngest player to win the Premier League following confirmation of Arsenal's title.

He will be 16 years and 144 days old on Sunday, the final day of the campaign, and will receive one of the 40 medals given to the Premier League champions.

Dowman takes the record from Phil Foden, who was 17 years and 350 days when he won the first of his six league titles with Manchester City in 2017-18.

It is yet another mark set by the young England midfielder this season.

He became the youngest player in Premier League history when he came on for his senior debut in August 2025 - at 15 years and 235 days old.

In November he became the Champions League's youngest player at 15 years and 308 days, and by scoring a late goal to seal a 2-0 win at home to Everton in March, Dowman also became the Premier League's youngest scorer at 16 years and 73 days.

Players must make a minimum of five league appearances to qualify for a Premier League medal, and Dowman has played in five games as a substitute this season.

We did say long into the night...

Arsenal players were pictured outside Emirates Stadium at 05:00 BST after they were crowned Premier League champions for the first time in 22 years, as their celebrations continued.

Eberechi Eze posted pictures on Instagram in the early hours of Wednesday, stood outside their stadium in north London alongside team-mates Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka and Jurrien Timber.

The players had earlier celebrated Arsenal's title victory at the club's training ground, where they had gathered to watch rivals Manchester City draw at Bournemouth.

City failed to earn the three points they needed to extend the title race into Sunday's final round of fixtures, sparking wild celebrations.
