Manager Gary Naysmith will leave Stenhousemuir for Ayr United this summer
Stenhousemuir have reached the Scottish Championship for the first time despite losing the second leg of their play-off to visitors Alloa Athletic.
Gary Naysmith's side are promoted thanks to a 3-2 aggregate win thanks to a 3-1 win in the first leg at Recreation Park.
Cameron O'Donnell thumped Alloa's winner on the night from a difficult angle from six yards just after the hour mark for the midfielder's second goal of the season.
However, the hosts, who finished runners-up in League 1 behind Inverness Caledonian Thistle, held out for a famous victory over fourth-top Alloa.
Stenhousemuir will need to recruit a new manager this summer with Naysmith joining next season's opponents, Ayr United.
The former Scotland full-back told BBC Alba: "To be honest, I thought Alloa were the better team today and we were holding on at the end.
"Today wasn't our best performance, but over the course of the season nobody could say that we didn't deserve to get promoted.
"We pushed Inverness all the way and that was only our second league defeat in 20-odd games and, in the two legs of the semi-final and the first leg against Alloa, we were outstanding and I'm delighted to get over the line."
