Marco Rose had a few enquires from the Bundesliga including Eintracht Frankfurt but I think he was still on the books of RB Leipzig which made it difficult for some of the German club to get him out of the contract. But I think it was easier for a Premier League side to do that kind of a deal.

Having been at some of the biggest clubs in the Bundesliga, the next step for Rose was to go abroad and test himself. When he was at Leipzig, he spoke about wanting to manage in the Premier League and I think Bournemouth was the most exciting option for him.

  4. Can mavericks help Man City out-gun the Gunners?published at 15:10 BST 21 April

With this season's title potentially going down to goal difference, Andros Townsend said on BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club that he believed maverick players, such as Rayan Cherki, Jeremy Doku and January signing Antoine Semenyo, could tip the title race in Manchester City's favour.

"[Pep] Guardiola's philosophy is probably changing and evolving," said the former England and Tottenham winger.

"He has always had one maverick. He has always had a Grealish or an Ibrahimovic, so has had 10 solid players and one maverick, whereas now he has got Doku, Cherki and Semenyo, who you could probably argue is a bit of a maverick as well.

"Is he thinking 'right, I'm facing more low blocks and tougher defences - I need more maverick players to unlock these defences'?"

    Burnley, beware...

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola says there are no fresh injury concerns as his side take on Leeds United on Wednesday.

Justin Kluivert and Lewis Cook remain the only two players out.

  6. 'We have five games left to play - that's my focus' - Parker on futurepublished at 15:01 BST 21 April

Burnley v Man City (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Burnley

Burnley manager Scott Parker on preparing his players for the final five games of the season: "The biggest challenge is the mental side, certainly for us, with five games left, the season the way it has gone. For many of these players the main focus is psychological. Trying to get them to the best place to try to perform."

On whether he is planning for next season: "You certainly need to have an eye on that, for sure. As a club, all of us need to have an eye on that. At this moment in time games come thick and fast but no doubt in the near future I am sure those chats will take place in more detail."

On whether he wants to be manager next season: "This season has been a huge challenge for us. At this present moment in time this season has five games left to play and that's my main focus. Discussions about what we need to do as a football club will take place in due course."

  7. 'I totally, totally understand the booing'published at 14:57 BST 21 April

Burnley v Man City (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Burnley

Burnley manager Scott Parker on dealing with booing from supporters: "As a man I would say I am pretty fair. At the weekend I totally understand and totally deserved it because of the confusion our fans must have had was a confusion that I had as well.

"For 60 minutes of that game you are looking at it and thinking 'this is perfect, we have written the script and we are acting it out'. In the space of 30 minutes the game falls away from you and you lose 4-1.

"That frustration and the pure not understanding of it is what lives with us all, so I totally, totally understand the booing.

"There has been other occasions when I have had absolutely no idea why that [booing] has been the case.

"There has been unrest and booing [in the past] that I don't really get.

"It has become very common where the instant reaction is to boo. If you are 1-0 down at half time the instant reaction is to boo. That has become a trend.

"In this case I totally understand it and take full responsibility and I get that. We let ourselves down for 30 minutes."

  8. History doesn't bode well for Clarets against Man Citypublished at 14:51 BST 21 April

What can we expect from Manchester City's trip to Turf Moor on Wednesday, then?

History suggests that a win for Pep Guardiola's side is the most likely outcome as they have won 14 of their last 15 Premier League matches against Burnley.

City have also not lost to a newly promoted side since going down 2-1 against Leeds in April 2021. It is a streak that has lasted 29 games.

On the other hand, Burnley manager Scott Parker has lost all five of his matches against City in the Premier League.

Clearly, history does not bode well for the Clarets tomorrow.

I believe the Premier League title will be decided on 24 May. I am also beginning to think it will be decided with another Aguero moment. Will the new ‘Aguero’ be wearing blue or red???

Maybe if Arsenal spent less time wrestling opponents and over crowding the opposing goalkeeper at set pieces and concentrated on playing football instead of applying the "dark arts" they might not be in this position!

Burnley manager Scott Parker on whether he can take motivation from having an impact on the title race: "I don't think so. The main thing is to have an effect on us and what we do. That challenge is there for us and is an incredible challenge.

"We did what we did last year to have this challenge. We are going up against the elite of the elite - that's a challenge we should be relishing."

  11. 'Down to individuals how they want to approach this'published at 14:39 BST 21 April

Burnley v Man City (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Burnley

Burnley manager Scott Parker on what he wants to see from his players: "It's down to individuals and how they want to approach this. From my side what will always be the driver is the things you can control. There are certain traits and habits you can control.

"Not getting a result or the outcome of a performance sometimes you can accept when you fall a little bit short due to many reasons, but one thing you can never fall short on is what you are in control of. That has to be a mainstay and that will be the message."

  12. Burnley 'a club of nothingness' as relegation loomspublished at 14:33 BST 21 April

Natalie Bromley from the No Nay Never podcast has described Burnley as "a club of nothingness" as relegation from the Premier League looms.

Natalie said: "No matter how the season is going, or the challenges you are trying to overcome, conceding four goals in 45 minutes is not good. Not good at all.

"We did "OK" in the first half against Nottingham Forest and Zian Flemming's opening goal was a really well-worked opportunity.

"The second half wasn't even worth thinking about. We were second best all over the park. Our attacking threat non-existent. Our ability to string a positive or meaningful pass together laughable. And, again, Parker just seemed to lack any consistency or clear strategy in his starting line-up or his substitutions.

"It feels like we are in Gameweek 33 and he still has no idea what his best starting 11 is.

"But the most difficult part to take is that we simply crumbled so very easily. As ugly as the football was during the Sean Dyche years - and I have no desire to return to that - we had that strong jaw mentality. We gave our all. We fought for everything.

"We are so very weak as a club. A club of nothingness. With no clear identity and none of the East Lancashire grit that has run through our DNA since 1882."

  13. 'Burden of relegation been on our shoulders for some time now'published at 14:29 BST 21 April

Burnley v Man City (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Burnley

Burnley manager Scott Parker on whether the prospect of relegation is playing on the players' minds: "Regarding the outcome of tomorrow night and the situation of what it can be is one which the players have probably been facing for some time, really.

"I don't think it [relegation] is a big player in terms of us. That's been the challenge for us over the last few months, to be honest with you, because we have not managed to pick up results.

"That burden has obviously been on our shoulders for some time now.

"That may be the reality for tomorrow night, that's the way it is and where we are now in terms of our season."

  14. Parker says he 'deserved' abuse after Forest collapsepublished at 14:24 BST 21 April

Speaking after their collapse at Nottingham Forest on Sunday, Burnley boss Scott Parker said he deserved the abuse he received from the fans

The 4-1 defeat left the Clarets 13 points from safety with five games left.

The Clarets boss was then booed by the travelling fans when he went over to show his appreciation to the away end at the City Ground after final whistle.

Parker had said after the game: "I've got no defence and rightly so. The travelling support for 30 minutes saw a team just fall away.

"It's our job as players and as a manager to give the best version of ourselves. For 30 minutes we deserved to get booed and I deserved to get the abuse. That's what football is, I deserved that walking over there [to the fans at full time].

"It's not nice, it's hurtful and it's sad but that's the reality.

"If you open up in this division for a team like us you get hurt. I thought in the first half we did everything we needed to do.

"I'm a fan as well, I understand the passion and emotion, it's been a disappointing season.

"At times we haven't given them much to cheer about and at times I would have liked more in terms of the general getting behind us but I don't expect that really."

  16. 'There has been a lot of reflection'published at 14:19 BST 21 April

Burnley v Man City (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Burnley

Burnley manager Scott Parker on the mood in the camp before Wednesday game against Manchester City, which follows a 4-1 defeat at relegation rivals Nottingham Forest: "As you can imagine after a really disappointing result and a really disappointing final part of that game as well there has been a lot of reflection.

"It brings a certain dampness to the training facility but we rebooted well today and we are looking in a good place in terms of the mental side of things.

"Next game now is a massive one against an elite team. The past is the past now."

Although relegation from the Premier League has felt inevitable for several weeks now, Burnley's return to the Championship will be officially confirmed if they lose to Manchester City on Wednesday.

After finishing second in the Championship last season and therefore securing a return to the top flight, the Clarets have won only four of their 33 league games this term.

A total of 20 points leaves them 19th in the table, 13 points adrift of West Ham in 18th.

In the unlikely event that the Clarets were to earn a point against City, then their top-flight status would be preserved until at least Saturday, when they will be relegated if either West Ham avoid defeat at home to Everton, or Tottenham win away at Wolves.

We also have Burnley manager Scott Parker facing the media right now as his side prepare for a huge test against Manchester City.

Let’s hear what Parker has to say as he addresses the situation.

  20. 'Rose is definitely worth a try'published at 14:06 BST 21 April

Bournemouth v Leeds (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Raphael Honigstein
German football journalist on BBC Monday Night Club

Marco Rose is a very talented coach - no doubt at that. He's coached at the highest level with Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig.

Perhaps he hasn't followed up on his early promise as he was tipped to become the next Thomas Tuchel after winning the Uefa Youth League as a really young coach at RB Salzburg.

He left Dortmund after one season when the club and him felt they weren't the right fit while his spell at Leipzig petered out after a promising start when he won the German Cup.

That's why we will see him at Bournemouth next season rather than in contention for a job at one of the super clubs in Europe. But there's no doubt he's a very charismatic guy, got the experience and done some interesting things tactically. It's definitely worth a try for the Cherries.
