Gateshead chairman Bernard McWilliams has stood down from his role due to ill health.

Former chairman and owner Graham Wood is to stand in as interim chairman.

"I thank the board for their support and understanding as I take this decision to step back," said McWilliams in a statement, external.

"But the time has come to put my health first."

McWilliams has been involved with the club since 2019 and, in May last year, stepped up from his role as vice-chairman to replace Neil Pinkerton.

Gateshead are also currently without a manager after Rob Elliot left last month to take over at Carlisle United.
