Somerset coach Alfonso Thomas reflected on what might have been.

"First things first we've got to give Middlesex credit for the way they fought," he said.

"I thought our boys started okay, lost a few wickets and Rehan (Ahmed) we can look back and say why didn't he review. It's all ifs and buts.

"But I'm just well proud of the lads for the way they fought,

"Our supporters were fantastic. They're the best supporters in the country."

It's been a superb day of cricket, fitting with what has been a fantastic competition.

Great scenes at Trent Bridge as first the vanquished Leicestershire players head to their fans in the Fox Road stand to thank them for their support.

They were loud and boisterous throughout but couldn't get their team over the line.

Then the triumphant Middlesex players head to their fans at the Stuart Broad end. They were jumping up and down ecstatically when the decisive catch was taken.

It was a great atmosphere which helped to make it a thrilling final.

A huge moment for the club.

Their first trophy of any description in 10 years - when Middlesex won the County Championship.

The first white-ball trophy since winning the Blast in 2008.

Middlesex have done it with a core of young players plus the vastly experienced Toby Roland-Jones (3-27) plus Tom Helm (3-32) and centurion Ryan Higgins.

Higgins also played his part in the key wicket of Nick Kelly, taking a catch in the deep off the bowling of Helm, who was irresistible in his second spell after going for 20 in his first two overs.

Naavya Sharma took the final wicket and finishes with 20 wickets in the cup. We'll hear from him again for sure.

Leicestershire were so close and looked impregnable with Kelly (103) at the crease.
