Banton goes back-to-back! He's been rewarded for his patience here.

Malinga doesn't do a lot wrong but it's such a good pitch. A good length delivery is simply nudged off the pads and it races away to the ropes. A productive over for England.

Confidence back into Tom Banton's batting with that shot.

This time it was timed beautifully into the off side for four.

  3. Eng 33-0published at 5.3 overs

Early bowling change for Sri Lanka, as Eshan Malinga replaces Madushanka.

And on cue, Tom Banton pings one out of the middle of the bat at last, another backfoot punch past extra cover.

A good fluid start from Ben Duckett and a sticky start from Tom Banton.

Banton is not timing that shot on the back foot today.

I can't imagine Banton throwing this wicket away today as we have talked about how important this innings is for him to try to get a game in Australia when Jacob Bethell comes back.

More exquisite timing from Duckett, who plays a defensive prod that still flies through the covers and they're able to scamper back for three, and then clips into the leg side for a couple more.

Tom Banton, on the other hand, still looks a little scratchy but Duckett's fluency is taking the pressure off him for now.

A lovely shot through the covers from Ben Duckett.

He just waits for the ball underneath his eyes, and then punches it through the covers for four.

    Textbook Ben Duckett.

Back of a length outside the off stump, and he thumps it for four between point and cover, barely moving his feet at all.

It's a fresh pitch and the ball isn't doing much. Feels like at least one of England's openers needs to cash in.

    Shot.

It's the first loose ball from Asitha Fernando, having done so well to keep Tom Banton quiet, but it's a fraction too short and Banton punches beautifully off the back foot for four.

  9. Eng 8-0published at 2 overs

Back-to-back boundaries for Duckett to get England going, though this one's not quite as convincing as he top-edges a short ball for four more.

The new ball has been a much more potent weapon since the tri-series shifted to Lahore.

Powerplay seam bowlers in this tri-series:

    • Rawalpindi - 6 wickets, avg 49.33, SR 57.1
    • Lahore - 10 wickets, avg 20.40, SR 23.7

  11. Eng 4-0published at 1.4 overs

    And England's patience is rewarded.

Madushanka drifts on to the pads and Ben Duckett doesn't miss out, whipping the ball past square leg for four. Lovely timing.

  12. Eng 0-0published at 1.3 overs

Very good start from Dilshan Madushanka, too.

Nine balls without a run for England...

I am old enough to have played a seven-match ODI series.

One in Australia we lost 6-1 and one in Sri Lanka, which we lost 5-2. I know all about playing in dead games.

The fringe players that will be replaced by Jofra Archer, Jos Buttler and Jacob Bethell, but can anyone today twist the selectors' arms?

  14. Eng 0-0published at 1 over

A solid start from Asitha Fernando, testing Tom Banton with a maiden. There's not much swing out there early on.

First slip sat a bit deeper than the keeper and it just got to him on the half volley.

    Edged... doesn't carry!

Not the most convincing start from Tom Banton, no foot movement and swinging loosely outside the off stump.

A win would be ideal for England. They don't want to go into Australia on the back of three defeats.

They have played two peculiar games of cricket. They have found ways to lose.

We have been out there this morning and everyone seems upbeat.

One of the big positives from England's last game against Pakistan was Ben Duckett's return to form as he scored a century.

He makes his way to the middle now with Tom Banton, and Asitha Fernando has the ball in hand for Sri Lanka.
