A quieter over to finish from George Bell who takes just a single after plundering 17 in the penultimate one.

He finishes the day unbeaten on 59 from 49 balls and the way he was playing he is probably upset to see the close.

Earlier, Dean Elgar struck 108 on his farewell appearance and Tom Westley hit 65, while Matt Critchley and Charlie Allison's partnership was well broken up by Mason Crane's two quickfire wickets.

Day four will start with Essex 45 runs behind Glamorgan with five wickets in hand.

George Bell is absolutely motoring for Essex in these closing stages and has passed 50, leaving it in the rear view mirror in fact.

He's just hit Ray Toole for four consecutive fours!

Then Toole manages to bring it back a bit with a dot and a single to finish the penultimate over of the day.

Josh Bohannon takes a single off the first ball of the final over from Shafiqullah Ghafari and is happy to spend the rest of it at the non-striker's end.

Ben Walkden sees out the over to close a sapping day for the Durham attack - shorn of Ben Raine, Matthew Potts and Ben Stokes - at Old Trafford.

Bohannon reaches the close with a magnificent unbeaten 125, passing 6,000 career first-class runs in the process.

The hosts will start the final day trailing by 226 runs as the game heads inexorably to a probable draw.

The final two overs coming up at Sophia Gardens as the clock ticks past 6pm.

Essex's second innings continues to prove an awful lot better than their first as they reach 300.

George Bell has quickly scored a run-a-ball 33 with his fifth four of the innings.

While we have the nicely melodic action of seeing Mason Crane bowling to Noah Thain.

A fraction short by Callum Parkinson and Ben Walkden steers it past point for four. One over to go after this one.

The 110th over ticks by, so it's just the one batting bonus point for Lancashire, and one bowling point for Durham - not that either will be worried about that at this stage of the season.

Durham would love to crown their Division Two title with a 10th win but it's going to take a big bowling effort on the final day to bring it about on today's evidence.

It's been a great day for Kent. After promotion was confirmed when Northants lost at Lord's, they completed an eight-wicket win over Gloucestershire in Canterbury. Here are a couple of congratulatory messages.

Career-high scores from Tom Lammonby (229) and Tom Abell (284 not out).

Lammonby and Abell also shared a club-record fourth-wicket partnership of 334.

Surrey did not help their cause by dropping Lammonby once and Abell twice.

Migael Pretorius then blasted an unbeaten 72 from 65 balls to help Somerset to the third-highest score in their history.

Surrey are 269 runs behind and will have to bat out the whole of tomorrow to save the game.
