Saturday is usually "moving day" in golf parlance, but Warwickshire and Kent have already put themselves within touching distance of their respective goals.

A draw will be enough for the Bears to be crowned Division One champions and they are in a dominant position against Leicestershire, with a title-clinching victory likely to be sealed on day three.

In Division Two, Kent are in decent shape against Gloucestershire and their closest challengers for second position, Northamptonshire, are struggling to build a defendable lead against Middlesex at Lord's.

Kent may not need to win this game to seal promotion - but won't be relying on Northants losing at Lord's to do the job for them.

Ben Compton's six-hour innings of 126 helped them to a 124-run first-innings lead, with Daniel Bell-Drummond contributing 55.

A couple of wickets for Matt Milnes - one of them from the first ball of Gloucestershire's second innings - put the visitors under pressure.

But they take a single from the final over of the day from Tawanda Muyeye and reach stumps with no further damage - 63 behind.

The umpires confer about the light with two overs remaining.

Tommy Boorman clips the final delivery to long leg for one and will keep the strike - if the umpires 'give the green light'.

An absorbing if not electric day of cricket at Lord's as Northamptonshire battled gamely to rescue themselves from a tough spot and keep their promotion hopes alive.

Resuming 152 runs behind on first innings, Ricardo Vasconcelos (69) dug in to erase the deficit before Zaib took over the mantle with an excellent knock from 138 balls.

Middlesex had to work hard for their wickets in more benign conditions than day one, but have chipped away and remain firmly in the driving seat.

Northants close 97 ahead but with just three wickets intact and a freshened attack to face in the morning.

Kent are keeping the pressure on Tommy Boorman with Chris Benjamin standing up to the stumps for Khaled Ahmed.

Boorman edges, but it's all along the floor and Tawanda Muyeye's 'long barrier' at slip prevents any addition.

Ahmed is a little fuller next up and Boorman is able to deflect it down to the vacant third man area for four.

More self denial from Tommy Boorman, who has five not out from 51 balls faced so far.

Bowling change by Kent with four overs to go as Ekansh Singh takes up the attack.

His third ball is too full and Miles Hammond cover drives for four as Gloucestershire's total passes 50.

They're off again for bad light so that's it for the second day's play at Edgbaston, where Warwickshire have a firm grip on the match against Leicestershire and the County Championship title.

A draw will secure top spot for the Bears but the most likely outcome is they take the seven remaining Leicestershire wickets to clinch the title with a victory.

Sam Hain's superb 142 helped the hosts earn a first-innings lead of 247, before Ethan Bamber and Chris Woakes made inroads into Leicestershire's top order.

Ben Sanderson climbs into a Tom Helm short ball and hooks for four more.

We might not be into the realms of crucial yet, but these could turn out to be useful runs.

The lead creeps up to 92 with two overs to go.

Ben Sanderson gets a trifle lucky as a thick outside edge off Danru Ferns flies wide of the slip cordon for four.

Another edge, this time in front of gully, brings him a couple more. Sanderson feels emboldened enough to take a single off the final ball to keep the strike.

Three overs to go at Lord's and the lead is 88.

There could still be eight overs to be bowled in the day's play at Edgbaston, because of the earlier interruptions for bad light.

Khaled Ahmed starts a new over, Miles Hammond angles the bat and runs it down past the slips for four.

There's a loud lbw appeal in the over as well, but nothing doing from the umpire.

The umpires have called off play for the day with 15 overs still scheduled as bad light wins out at Trent Bridge.

A helter skelter day at Trent Bridge which started with Nottinghamshire batting and ended with the hosts batting a second time.

In between, we saw 14 wickets fall in bowler-friendly conditions.

Olly Stone was the stand out with 5-51 to dismiss Yorkshire for 179 - 72 runs adrift on first innings.

Stone was immediately withdrawn through injury and will play no further part which will comeas a relief to the Yorkshire batter when they eventually begin their chase.

The visitors have fought back well with three quick wickets and Notts will resume 127 runs ahead with seven wickets in hand.

Brilliant from Glamorgan, awful from Essex.

Asa Tribe, dropped on 0 yesterday was eventually dismissed today for 184 as the home side piled on the runs.

Zaman Akhter picked-up a five-fer for Essex but in truth they have been completely outplayed.

The visitors' fragile batting was again shown up as they collapsed in a heap and a heavy defeat already looks on the cards.

With Leicestershire's appeal against their 27-point deduction still to be heard by the ECB, Essex's relegation fears are far from over.

Ooof, almost two in two balls for Chris Woakes.

He beats Jonny Tattersall all ends up with a beauty just outside off stump.
