England captain Joe Root, speaking to Test Match Special": "If you looked at the toss on day one and if you said we'd be chasing 130 in the final innings we'd have definitely taken that. That being said fair play to Pakistan, they threw some punches last night. They made it very difficult for us and in some ways it's a good thing to go through that, Test cricket is not always going to go your own way. You're going to have good surfaces to try and find different ways of taking wickets but to see us actually be quite clinical with the bat off the back of that was good too. So in many ways we're better for it."

On yesterday's chaotic final session: "Sometimes that's what happens in those late stages. They become more frequent in modern cricket, guys can bat all the way down. No disrespect but it's not like it was 50 years ago when you had bowlers and batters, there's more all-rounders now.

"We didn't have a lot of information on the young fella, fair play he played some wonderful shots, rode his luck a little bit with a lot of plays and misses and maybe we could've gone to slightly different plans but we'll learn from it.

"If we find ourselves in another situation further down the line we might we might have something else to go to. Maybe go with wider stuff and have specific plans. As I said, we didn't have a lot of information to work with and I do think we'll be better off having that information in the bank."

Pakistan captain Babar Azam: "We had a couple of good moments. I think we have bowled well but I think the first innings cost us. Too much soft dismissals and then we came back and in the second innings and we batted long. A few good performances, I think it was a good opportunity for youngsters to play against quality bowlers, quality opponent, so they learned a lot and I think this is helpful for the future."

On Razaullah's performance: "He's a raw talent. I think it's good for us because they have played a lot of cricket back home and they play first-class and improve a lot. Day by day as a player when you play a lot of cricket you learn a lot of things. I think this match gave him a lot of confident - both sides batting and bowling - so good for him and we wish him good luck.

"Before we focused on red ball and then focused on white ball, the PCB and the stakeholders are trying to do a lot of red ball cricket over there [in Pakistan] because we are going back home and then we are playing first-class cricket after one or two days, so it's good for us for the rest of cricket because when we are playing a lot of red ball cricket you learn a lot of good things. A few boys are staying here playing county cricket, so it's good for us."

Joe Root says it's a "good thing" they were pushed by Pakistan last night.

"In many ways we are better for it," he says.

England have managed that well. They were 35-3 for about seven seconds before the no-ball came up and how crucial that could've been. That was the turning point and you just felt a little bit of the stuffing had been knocked out of Pakistan after that scrape from Muhammad Abbas to get two wickets.

That does send a few shivers down the spine and they've always said those low totals sometimes can be a bit tricky but a really good partnership.

I'm delighted for Jordan Cox. he's showed he's got what it takes at Test level with the bat and gloves. Joe Root is Joe Root - simple as that - and they will be delighted.
