What an effort by Glamorgan opener Asa Tribe.

He bats through the entire second day at the Oval to finish on 142 not out, with his side in a commanding position on 339-5, 356 ahead.

The Welsh county added 309 runs, having resumed on 30-0, with the pitch transformed after 20 wickets fell on the opening day.

Tom Lawes and James Taylor took two wickets each, but Kiran Carlson (57) and Ben Kellaway (43) supported Tribe well and Glamorgan will hope to stretch the lead well beyond 400 in the morning.

If there's one bright spot for Essex at the end of this one it is the debut performance of teenager Jack Auld who has taken his maiden first class wicket and shown plenty of promise.

One for the future, and one for now it seems.

Slow going with the bat at the moment for Sussex but it's Nottinghamshire who need to attack this game if they are to keep their title defence alive.

Sussex lead by 39 runs. Notts still need another four wickets to bowl them out. We've got nine over remaining today at Hove.

Another huge appeal from the Lancashire field... it flicks something on the way past Tawanda Muyeye from Tom Bailey.

The visitors are lively in the field. They still fancy their chances of pulling off something special.

Big appeal as Tom Bailey strikes Sam Northeast on the pads and there were some Kent hearts in mouths there.

That looked very close but the umpire says not out.

Northeast then flicks one around the corner for a single before Tawanda Muyeye eases some nerves with a fine drive for four to the point boundary.

They're almost there.

We've just gone over the allocated 20 overs but of course with the game at the stage it is they will carry on.

Lewis Gregory bowls with a bit of width to George Hill - who drives through cover point for four.

He turns a single into the on side to move to 43.

Surrey managed a couple of strikes in the first hour of the new ball, but they will face a challenging chase whatever the efforts of their bowlers now.

Asa Tribe has shown fine temperament as well as technique, demonstrating enough patience to soak up periods of dot balls and hold the innings together with his century.

Ben Kellaway chipped in with 43 as he added 80 with Tribe before edging Tom Lawes to slip.

Then Adam Thomas was the catcher again as Billy Root edged a decent delivery from Dan Worrall that forced him to play.

After the two first innings lasted less than 20 overs combined, there is just so much time left in the game as Glamorgan bid to free themselves from the relegation struggle.

Hill is back and across to push a single into the off side.

Dom Bess is foxed by one ball that misses his off stump and tries to cut another ball away off the back foot. No run.

Two quick wickets for Middlesex have left Gloucestershire on 272-9 in the 77th over.

Sai Kishore was caught at long-off from the bowling of Luke Hollman for 71, ending a stand of 144 with Daz Ahmed - and Matt Taylor followed, leg before for a first-ball duck.

Ahmed is still there on 76 not out.

Dan Mousley finds the boundary and Warwickshire only need 15 to win.

They are set to take 19 points from the game and will be in the shake-up in the final round of fixtures next week whatever happens with their title rivals Somerset and Notts.

Relief for Sam Northeast as he rocks onto the back foot to nicely punch to the point boundary off Tom Bailey.

Northeast is off the mark and off a dreaded pair for Kent.

The home side have opened up a 29-run lead over the defending champions.
