  1. Big appealpublished at 11:56 BST

    Warks v Essex 39-4 - target: 206

Ethan Bamber thought he had another for a moment there, with Luc Benkenstein beaten - but it was just that, and no feather of an edge through to the wicket keeper, despite the fervent appeals.

  2. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 11:54 BST

    Jones c Bancroft b Williams 30 (Gloucs 121-4 v Lancs - target 202)

Now then - Gloucestershire needed this.

Will Williams has deserved this after a very good spell.

It's a classic away-swinger and Michael Jones takes the bait - edging to Cameron Bancroft at second slip who makes a solid grab to his right.

Jones played nicely for his 30 and that fourth-wicket partnership has been broken.

Matty Hurst comes to the crease for Lancashire.

  3. Postpublished at 11:52 BST

    Hants v Somerset 168-4 - target 287

Swing and a miss from Will Smeed - not a lot of footwork to talk about here.

That was probably Smeed's first loose shot since coming to the crease, now 16 not out off 27 balls, following James Rew's dismissal early this morning.

  4. Postpublished at 11:52 BST

    Warks v Essex 35-4 - target: 206

After the carnage of the first 25 minutes, prompted by a Keith Barker triple-wicket-maiden and a cheap dismissal induced by Ethan Bamber, Paul Walter and Luc Benkenstein have calmed things down a little.

Benkenstein survived the phantom played-on (see 11:34 BST) to score two boundaries, while Walter has been using footwork to account for the seaming deliveries.

  5. 50 runs

50 for Max Holdenpublished at 11:47 BST

    Northants v Middx 128-1 - lead by 60

Only 50 miles separates the County Ground at Northampton from Edgbaston - but in terms of action, they are light years apart this morning.

While four wickets were falling in the opening half an hour in Birmingham, it's been a relatively sedate start to the final day in this one - 15 runs coming in the first 10 overs.

Sam Robson brought up his half century off the second ball of the day and now Max Holden goes past 50 for the 35th time in first-class cricket, pulling Ben Sanderson to the boundary backward of square.

  6. Postpublished at 11:45 BST

    Gloucs 113-3 v Lancs - target 202

Lancashire have made a strong start to the final day in Bristol.

Michael Jones is expressing himself, currently 30 not out, rotating the strike with Keaton Jennings (43 not out).

Gloucestershire need to break this partnership now if they are to have a chance of an unlikely victory today.

    Jones and Jennings look set.

Will Williams is appealing for lbw with the second ball of his ninth over but there looks to be a bit of bat involved. Jones didn't look particularly concerned any way.

  7. dropped catch

    Dropped catchpublished at 11:42 BST

    Hants v Somerset 162-4 - target 287

    Change of bowling for Hampshire.

Liam Dawson comes on to replace Sonny Baker from the Hilton End.

Will Smeed flashes at one aerially with the third ball of the over and it reaches Codi Yusuf at deep backward point who is at full stretch one-handed, and gets fingertips to it, but can't cling on.

It would have been a screamer but it goes down for the hosts.

  8. Bamber and Barker in tandempublished at 11:41 BST

    Essex 30-4 v Warks - target: 206

    Grace Ballinger
The Blaze and Manchester Super Giants seamer

A terrific sight to see Bamber and Barker fired up - unless you are an Essex fan!

There is something special about this Warwickshire seam attack, even without Woakes.

Bamber is constantly questioning the outside edge, whilst Barker angles in and forces the Essex batters to play at the ball.

The Bears are yet to bowl any spin during this fixture, which is unsurprising considering the quality of pace on display at Edgbaston.

James Bracey & Sam Cook are surely hardest done to by England's selectors in recent seasons. Both deserve another chance, especially Cook who is second only to James Anderson on the county circuit when it comes to medium-fast bowling.

    Gary, Billingham

Thanks for your message Gary, and thanks for giving us a good talking point for the day.

Who on the county circuit do you think is most deserving of an England call?

Who are the names who have been most surprisingly overlooked and which up and comers or left field choices deserve a chance?

  10. A stroke of luck for Lucpublished at 11:34 BST

    Essex 29-4 v Warks - target: 206

This is incredible good fortune. Luc Benkenstein plays a forward defensive aiming to deaden the ball, but it spins back and hits the stumps - but doesn't dislodge the bails.

Benkenstein then drives the next ball to the boundary.

  11. 100 runs

100 up for Lancashirepublished at 11:32 BST

    Gloucs v Lancs 100-3 - target 202

    What a shot.

Michael Jones comes flying down the wicket to practically say hello to quicky Matt Taylor and fires him over deep mid-off for four.

    That brings up Lancashire's 100.

Essex, blown away in the opening over.....wow

    Ian, Essex

That Keith Barker blitz was in the second over of the day but still - what a start to day four!

  14. Postpublished at 11:29 BST

    Hants v Somerset 158-4 - target 287

Bit of an expensive over for Hampshire as Will Smeed finds a gap down to third man for a second boundary in three balls.

129 more now needed for Somerset.

  15. 150 runs

150 up for Somersetpublished at 11:27 BST

    Hants v Somerset 153-4 - target 287

Will Smeed hits a lovely shot off the back foot through cover point for four as Somerset move past the 150 mark.

  16. Postpublished at 11:24 BST

    Gloucs v Lancs 90-3 - target 202

Good on-drive from Michael Jones (24 not out) shaves the stumps at the other end and goes for a timely boundary.

Lancashire have added 15 runs so far to their overnight total without losing a wicket.

  17. Nightmare start for Essexpublished at 11:23 BST

    Essex 21-4 v Warks - target: 206

    Grace Ballinger
The Blaze and Manchester Super Giants seamer

Keith Barker makes three breakthroughs in the over!

The veteran swings the momentum into Warwickshire's favour. After being away from the Bears for eight years, he is back with a bang.

There is something about that angle from the left-arm seamer coming around the wicket - he gets one LBW, another bowled, whilst Cook departs with a loose up-ish drive into the covers.

  18. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 11:20 BST

    Critchley c Mousley b Bamber 4 (Essex 21-4 - target: 206)

And now Ethan Bamber is in on the act!

It's a wideish delivery and Matt Critchley's eyes light up, as he aggressively cuts but only succeeds in finding the right hand of Dan Mousley at cover.

A good catch, but not a great shot. Particularly in Essex's current state - which is bordering on code red.

  19. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 11:18 BST

    Rew c Brown b Abbott 59 (Hants 141-4 - target 287)

That's the wicket Hampshire wanted - and Kyle Abbott does the business yet again!

Superb bowling from Abbott, he's been excellent this morning.

Again, around the wicket, he gets James Rew to push at one and this time his outside edge does carry to Ben Brown behind the wicket.

The danger man has gone. Will Smeed walks to the crease. Somerset need him right now.

  20. Postpublished at 11:16 BST

    Hants v Somerset 141-3 - target 287

Oh Kyle Abbott is on fire this morning.

Again, around the wicket, he gets a small outside edge off James Rew (59) but the ball doesn't carry to Ben Brown behind the stumps.

Really, really good bowling from Hampshire. Just two runs added so far today.
