Durham spinner Matt Parkinson was the match-winner in their stunning 153-run win at Northamptonshire that takes them (at the moment) 55 points clear at the top of Division Two and closer to promotion.

The left-armer took 6-20 as Northants were rolled out for just 50 trying to chase down 204.

"I got a couple of wickets in the first innings, but probably didn't spin it to the extent that those two did. Granted, they're obviously leg spinners, but probably came in today with a bit of nerves, a bit of pressure, knowing that I'm probably the sole front-line spinner that we're playing," Parkinson said.

"But obviously delighted with how I bowled. I thought Matt Potts set the tone really well, and also our catching on the whole throughout the game has been magnificent.

"Ollie Robinson was outstanding behind the stump in the second innings, Kasey [Aldridge] with a great catch, and those things make a massive difference as a spinner when you know that you've got such class helping you around the bat. It's a big confidence builder.

“I just thought we were relentless. We brought a really good intensity today, which was something that we've not necessarily lacked, but Alex Lees is naturally an aggressive captain, and the lads really went with him.

"We've played front foot cricket all year, and it's a massive win for us in terms of getting back into the top division.”

It looks like being in vain but getting this 380 victory target down to under 100 has been an excellent effort.

The new ball is only eight deliveries away and Kent will feel they can wrap this one up with that.

With Northants' capitulation against Durham, it would be a sweetly-timed win.
