    The England captain has been excellent form, but hasn't been able to covert into three figures.

    With a wristy shot wide of third he brings up the 150 partnership off 19.2 overs - with the last 100 coming off nine overs - but departs from the following ball.

    He mis-times a drive off Asitha Fernando and Dunith Wellalage runs to his left at mid-off to collect the catch.

    Tom Banton's century today is only the fourth by an England ODI opener since the 2023 World Cup, Ben Duckett has scored the other three.

    Tom Banton is cruising now - he pulls Dilshan Madushanka over the mid-wicket ropes and then lifts the seamer over long-off, not even appearing to swing particularly hard.

    A further four comes through the covers - Banton is now on 117.

    We'll have a break as the physios are on to look at Madushanka's foot - he appears to have some bandaging there.

    It comes down to quality England batting, clever England batting.

    It's not a pitch where you can come out and play your shots at will. It has a few challenges and has a bit of adjusting to do and England have done that well.

    He had smacked the spinner's opening delivery through the covers for four, and ends Wellalage's over with another slapped shot through a similar area.

  12. Tom Banton moved onto a white-ball contract at Somerset earlier this year, Dan, so it'd be quite a reverse in trajectory.

    He made Somerset's record score in the first match of last season, hitting 344 against Worcestershire from number five.

    However he didn't score all that many runs in the rest of the season.

    Is Banton playing himself into contention to be the Test opener as well here? He has all the shots and is able to handle fast bowling, which are two things Emilio Gay hasn't been able to show yet.
