Somerset 394-5 v Sussex - match delayed by rain
Image source, ShutterstockSussex head coach Paul Farbrace has expressed concern about the early-season fixture schedule which has seen his side plays six games in seven weeks.
Speaking at the end of the first day at Taunton, he said: "it the sixth game on the bounce, with the last four having little break in between them, and we are asking the same players to perform day-in, day-out.
“It’s not lack of effort, care or trying. There’s a few tired bodies and the break next week will do the players good.
"We have a few fresh ones to come into our T20 side and will be able to give our bowlers some rest."
I didn't notice the Yorkshire XI on the first day, but having now seen it, I notice a number of changes from the last Championship XI. They never seem to select a settled team from one game to another. Whether they don't know their best team or it's squad rotation.
Ian, Doncaster
Some of that may be due to when England make Root and Brook available - and when they don't.
Good first innings from Yorkshire. Let's get out there after lunch and try and pick up those bowling points too.

Middlesex 177 v Derbyshire 228-5
It's another good day for Yorkshire's Jess Jonassen who is 110 not out in their 209-6 after 43 overs against Warwickshire at Scarborough.
Durham are 206-5 in the 41st over against Somerset after Hollie Armitage made 58 off 83 balls.
Eve Jones made 69 at the top of the order for Lancashire, but they are 179-6 after 40 against Surrey at The Oval.
Yorkshire 486 v Surrey
An entertaining morning session at Headingley and Yorkshire remain in the box seat but they may feel they could have got even more runs on the board, despite ending their innings just 14 runs short of 500.
Jonny Bairstow could only add four more runs to his overnight total before he chipped to Jordan Clark at mid-on for 120 while Adam Lyth was dismissed for 141 off the bowling of Clark.
George Hill played nicely for his 34 and Dom Bess was bowled when attempting to reverse-sweep Dan Lawrence for 42.
Dan Worrall bowled determinedly and Matthew Fisher picked up 4-92 on his return to Headingley but Yorkshire will be more than happy with their efforts after being put into bat by Surrey skipper Rory Burns.
Notts 18-1 v Hampshire 214
An intriguing morning session has taken place at Southampton, where Hampshire managed to pass 200 at the end of their innings, thanks largely to the contribution of 55 from the bat of Felix Organ.
In response, Nottinghamshire have found runs largely hard to come by and were 6-1 after nine overs, following the early wicket of Haseeb Hameed who was clean bowled by Kyle Abbott.
Ben Slater did strike three consecutive boundaries from the bowling of Brad Wheal in the final over before lunch to set up an interesting afternoon session in front of us.
Richardson c Fisher b Clark 15 (Yorkshire 486 v Surrey)
Jhye Richardson attempts to hoick Jordan Clark over the boundary for six but is caught behind square leg by Matthew Fisher - who had a long time to think about it before grabbing well.
Fisher ends with 4-92 but it is undoubtedly Yorkshire who are in the box seat and lunch will now be taken.
Gloucs 154 v Northants 83-4
Luke Procter defends Will Williams to mid off.
And now Procter is having a brief chat to batting partner Saif Zaib.
Another block to mid off. The third ball is turned away fine for a leg bye after a muted LBW shout.
There's enough width for Saif Zaib to leave the ball outside off and that's lunch.
A tough session of play marginally favouring Northants after the early loss of Nathan McSweeney this morning.
The innings gap is down to 71.
Yorkshire 484-9 v Surrey
A lovely shot from Jack White, who fires over mid-on for four.
Not a shot of a typical number 11.
The following delivery is sent for a one-bounce four, over long-off this time. An even better shot!
White then rather ambitiously goes to reverse-sweep Dan Lawrence with the following delivery but misses completely.
Somerset 394-5 v Sussex - lunch

BBC Radio Sussex
A frustrating morning at Taunton with three breaks for rain and only 10 overs bowled.
However, in that time Somerset have added 59 runs to virtually guarantee a fourth batting bonus point, the charge headed by Craig Overton, including a hooked six off the pacey Henry Crocombe
Tom Abell - who is 96 - has moved serenely towards his century which has looked almost inevitable from the moment he walked to the crease and would be his third hundred of the season
Derbyshire 228-5 v Middlesex 177
It has been Derbyshire's morning, of that there is no doubt.
Although Nick Potts was removed, Ben Aitchison (64*) and Wayne Madsen (41*) are two runs shy of a century partnership, and Middlesex have struggled to suppress the flow of runs.
The lead is 51 runs and the pitch looks a good one for batting on.
Gloucs 154 v Northants 82-4
Craig Miles is into the second over of his first spell and bowls a wide to Saif Zaib.
A leg side ball is flicked behind square for one. Procter tries to smack a wide ball through point but misses.
He gets a single pushed through cover off the back foot to keep the strike.
We should have time for at least one more over before lunch.
Kent 497-8 v Durham
When Kent lost three wickets for four runs at the start of play - including Ben Dawkins, who failed to add to his overnight 180 - it looked unlikely they would still be batting at lunch.
But with the ball getting softer, Ekansh Singh and Keith Dudgeon put together a stand of 108, with Singh taking a single to mid-on off Callum Parkinson to reach 50 of 77 balls.
They were parted, though, on the stroke of lunch as Dudgeon, on 44, spliced a Matthew Potts bouncer to the keeper - Potts now has 4-79.
Essex 98-4 v Leicestershire 333
Nightwatchman Jamie Porter pushes away Ajaz Patel's final ball of the morning as he bats through the entire session at Chelmsford for an unbeaten 36, the highest score of his career.
The day did not begin well for Essex, who lost three wickets for 19 runs after resuming on 10-1, including skipper Tom Westley, who was caught behind down the leg-side for two.
But Porter and Charlie Allison - who has 42 - have so far added 59 for the fifth wicket to steady the innings and give their side hope of getting within striking distance of Leicestershire's first-innings total.
Gloucs 154 v Northants 79-4
Saif Zaib is on the up, pushing Will Williams safely to backward point.
There are a couple of slips plus a fly slip or fourth slip in play as Zaib leaves the ball outside the line of off.
Williams adjusts his line and Zaib blocks to mid off.
He finds the gap this time and takes a single to mid off to reach 17.
Beautiful shape into Luke Procter to end the Williams over, but the Northants captain is able to push the ball down in front of the popping crease.
Another testing over bowled.
Notts 6-1 v Hampshire 214
Difficult times to be batting if you are in the Notts top order.
Kyle Abbott has just turned Freddie McCann around with a jaffa, moments after an unsuccessful LBW shout.
Runs are not coming easy right now. Getting through to lunch, you imagine, without the loss of further wickets is the priority.
Cliff b Lawrence 5 (Yorks 472-9 v Surrey)
Bowled him! Lunch will be delayed at Headingley as Surrey hunt their final wicket.
Ben Cliff plays at completely the wrong line and sees his off pole taken by Dan Lawrence who claims his second.
Last man in, Jack White.
Somerset 394-5 v Sussex
Another mini session of play dogged as much by anticipated rain as actual rain has ended.
Somerset remain a hit away from 400 and a fourth batting point with four overs left until the cut off of 110.
Tom Abell lunches four runs shy of what would be his third century of the season.
Craig Overton has been worked over somewhat by some hostile bowling from Henry Crocombe in particular, but he has also counter-attacked is some style to reach 63 not out off 71 balls.
Weather permitting - we're back on at 13.33 BST.
Yorkshire 466-8 v Surrey
Dragged down by Dan Lawrence and Jhye Richardson pulls away down to fine leg for four.
Useful runs these for Yorkshire.
