Summary

Have your say on England men this summer

  1. NZ 134-9published at 38.2 overs

Glenn Phillips is absolutely rapid so he can probably get a single from nowhere, but the problem he has is that Matt Henry's been struggling with his back so he won't be as nimble.

  2. NZ 134-9published at 38 overs

    Target 254

    Nope. Dot ball, well bowled.

Matt Henry will be on strike.

  3. 6 runs

    NZ 134-9published at 37.5 overs

    Target 254

Six! A short ball is helped on its way over fine leg!

Can Glenn Phillips get the single now from the final ball of Tongue's over? The field comes in.

Glenn Phillips is such a wonderful timer of the ball, particularly through the off side.

  5. NZ 128-9published at 37.3 overs

Still, he somehow finds the ropes!

That has been absolutely nailed through the covers by Phillips. Cracking shot.

If New Zealand required 30 I'd get it [the field setting] but Ben Stokes has 130 to play with.

  7. NZ 124-9published at 37.1 overs

Almost everyone is on the boundary for Glenn Phillips.

Has he got a Ben Stokes Headingley 2019 in him? It feels unlikely.

  8. NZ 124-9published at 37 overs

    Target 254

Gus Atkinson really likes Lord's, doesn't he?

  9. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 36.5 overs

    Jamieson c Duckett b Atkinson 6 (NZ 124-9)

Atkinson gets another! England are one away.

Kyle Jamieson is absolutely livid with himself. Having crunched a four earlier in the over, he also gets this one nicely out the middle of the bat but flicks it straight to Ben Duckett at short mid-wicket.

Four for Atkinson, and despair for New Zealand.

  10. NZ 120-8published at 36 overs

    Target 254

It's a fair point. There have been some brilliant bowling performances, obviously, but Harry Brook and Emilio Gay's half-centuries have been absolutely priceless for England.

Emilio Gay for player of the match. His patient 50 looks increasingly like the difference between the sides and keeping victory just out of sight for New Zealand.

  12. NZ 118-8published at 35 overs

    Target 254

Kyle Jamieson isn't going to hang around, as he showed with his explosive batting in the first innings.

Frankly, New Zealand have no choice but to go for it now with only Matt Henry to come.

Since 2025, Ben Stokes has picked up 36 wickets - the second-most for England. Among the England bowlers who have taken 10 wickets or more, his bowling average of 24.7 is the best in this period.

If I was New Zealand, I'd be disappointed with the attempt at the chase.

This pitch is not good enough for you to play the conventional way as a batter.

  15. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 34.4 overs

    Smith c Smith b Atkinson 4 (NZ 116-8)

    Back-to-back!

    England close in.

Four and out for Nathan Smith, who guided his first ball to third man only to nick his second through to Jamie Smith.

Nice seam movement from Gus Atkinson, who has three wickets now.

It was a partnership that was starting to frustrate England.

Devon Conway was hanging in there and Glenn Phillips brought a bit of energy to New Zealand's batting which we were all crying out for yesterday. It's the only way on this pitch to try and create some momentum.

A good catch going forward, well taken by Jacob Bethell. Maybe Devon Conway was put off by the movement of the fielders but that's exactly what England wanted.

  18. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 34 overs

    Conway c Bethell b Stokes 41 (NZ 111-7)

Great catch! England break a crucial partnership.

Devon Conway's stubborn resistance is ended as he gets a leading edge to Jacob Bethell at gully, who does well to dive forward and get his fingers under the ball as it starts to dip on him.

It was a gutsy effort from Conway, who fought for every run and withstood some really testing bowling but England's captain wins the contest.

  19. Umpire reviewpublished at 34 overs

Has Ben Stokes got his man?

England and Jacob Bethell celebrate, but the umpires want to check whether the catch was taken cleanly.

At what point does the pressure shift if this partnership continues to extend?

Every now and then, there are some good signs for New Zealand.
