The Conisborough lad arrived in South Yorkshire from his home in Spain with a busy schedule but not busy enough to come in and see our Toby. Tony returned to record a video for Comic Relief, which will see the re-release of his timeless classic 'Is this the way to Amarillo', surely a number one in March?
"If it makes number one it will be justice really," said Christie. "It should have made number one when it first came out... it was number one in Spain for about six months." The song and Tony were a massive hit in 1971. In that year his various releases kept him in the charts for 41 of the 52 weeks. Amarillo should make the top 5 and Christie will be touring the country for two months promoting his greatest hits - he's hoping that he will become as popular in the UK as he is in the continent. "I would rather be successful here, naturally, 'cause this is where I'm from. "I'm just hoping that this gets me back in the UK, because if it is a success I shall probably move back... I'm from the UK and I want to work here really." Latest news Tony's has hit the number one spot in the charts with Amarillo and has also announced that he will appear on the television soap Emmerdale. He is set to play himself in the soap and will perform a duet with Diane (Elizabeth Estensen). The show featuring Tony is set to be televised in August.
