So far thousands of images have been scanned in, catalogued and put online, from a total of 60,000. Everything from buildings, events and pastimes to pictures of local people are in the collection. Special features include images of World War Two blitz damage in December 1940 and the Sheffield flood of 1864. The flood pictures are some of the earliest photos of Sheffield. The official Picture Sheffield website (see Web Links, left) was launched on 17 September at the BBC Open Centre on Shoreham Street, Sheffield. But many images which have been scanned for the site remain unidentified - and that's where BBC South Yorkshire users can help. You've already helped to put details to many mystery photos over the last few months. Now we've added a new set of pictures in the hope that our amateur sleuths can help again.
