With her Bollywood dance CD's at the ready, Sheena Brabazon from Anston in South Yorkshire lets her beginners class know that this is going to be a dance routine that they wont forget in a hurry. The Indian love song blares out of the speakers... she turns to the excited ladies and takes her place in the centre of the room. | | Bollywood dance class |
Sheena has been dancing from the tender age of three and has continued to do so ever since. "My passion for dancing has grown over the years", says Sheena. "I can do lots of different styles of dancing, but I specialise in Bollywood and Bhangra now." Dressed in an electric blue Shalwaar Kameez (traditional Asian dress) Sheena talks her class through a series of simple moves: "It's such a vibrant and energetic form of dance. I love all the hand gestures and head movements". By public demand...Sheena says the Bollywood Oscars, or IIFAs, which take place in Sheffield this month, have most certainly got a lot more people curious about Bollywood music and dance. "A couple of years back there were few people who even knew about this kind of dance", explains Sheena. "The demand for it was huge in Sheffield, which is one of the reasons why I started putting on weekly classes." :: To see Sheena's step-by-step Bollywood dance moves, click the link on the right of this page |
