Petrol and diesel prices have risen sharply since the start of the Iran war. Ministers have played down the possibility of fuel shortages. The Prime Minister Keir Starmer is talking to energy bosses at No. 10, where they'll discuss how to handle the economic fallout of the conflict. There was a 5p cut in fuel duty introduced when Russia invaded Ukraine. This is due to start being phased out from September, although the PM has said “we will keep the situation under review in the light of what is happening in Iran”.
