Germany and UK resist being pulled into wider Iran war

Germany has stressed that the conflict had nothing to do with Nato.

Germany and Britain have ruled out any Nato involvement in attempts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to shipping. President Trump has said it will be very bad for Nato if it doesn't get involved, though the alliance is only a defensive partnership. Our correspondents explain where Europe and also China stand.

Meanwhile, Israel says it has detailed plans for at least a further three weeks of war against Iran. Our BBC Persian colleague explains the situation inside Iran.
