The secessionist struggle with the self declared Republic of Biafra was bitter and brutal

Nigeria marks 50 years since the end of a brutal civil conflict that pitted secessionists of the self-declared Republic of Biafra against the State. Millions lost their lives. We hear from General Yakubu Gowan, who at the time was the Head of State presiding over the end of hostilities and the beginning of the reconciliation process. We also hear the story of Emmanuel Onwubiko, Director of the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, whose parents were caught up in the war.

Liberia TV host Henry Costa has been detained in Freetown. Abdu Koroma from a lawyers association in Sierra Leone speaks about the case.

The whereabouts of the First Lady of Lesotho are still a mistery. She disappeared on Friday after failing to hand herself in on request of the Police. Journalist Marafaele Mohloboli is in Maseru and gives us the latest.
