Diplomats call for solution as xenophobic attacks in South Africa enter second day

Several African governments have issued warnings to their nationals living in South Africa. Meanwhile President Cyril Ramaphosa has condemned the second day of violence saying "there can be no justification for any South African to attack people from other countries". Will this be enough to appease other Africans who now feel under threat? We hear from Amir Sheikh, leader of the African Diaspora Forum.

The killing of a young woman who was raped and murdered when she paid a routine visit to a post office has touched a nerve. Yesterday, a 42-year-old man was charged with her rape and murder. Hundreds gathered outside her university campus for a vigil, and an online petition asking for a return of the death penalty has almost reached half a million signatures.

Over half the population of the Central African Republic "depend on aid to survive", says Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Emergency Relief Co-ordinator Ursula Mueller, who is raising awareness and funds for the humanitarian emergency affecting the population of CAR.
