The scientist turned politician, Sir Dawda Jawara, led his country to independence
Sir Dawda Jawara, Gambia's first President has died at the age of 95. The scientist turned politician led his country to independence, becoming Prime Minister from 1962 to 1970 after which he became the President, serving for 24 years before he was ousted in the coup led by Yahya Jammeh.
Malawi government has banned all forms of protests in the country. Defending the decision, Communication Minister Mark Botomani says that recent protests "had not been peaceful" leading to government offices being "vandalised" and business disrupted.
