Saved from the gallows: The tale of Amos Gilbert
The Lincolnshire farm labourer was sentenced to death after being found guilty of a minor crime during the Swing Riots of 1830.
It's 1830 and an uprising among agricultural workers called the Swing Riots is taking place across the east and south of England.
Amos Gilbert, a farm labourer from Bourne, becomes an unwitting accomplice in a crime committed by his brother-in-law.
He is found guilty and sentenced to hang, but as Patrycja Boryka finds out, Amos' life was spared - at a heavy personal cost to him.
