Dinosaur reptile unearthed in Rutland

Scientists have unearthed a bone belonging to a flying reptile which hunted 170 million years ago.

The remains were discovered at a quarry in Rutland. The pterosaur would have had a wingspan of up to 4 metres.

Palaeontologists believe it is the first pterosaur fossil to be found in the county, and the bone fragments are now on display at Rutland County Museum in Oakham.

Sarah Gabbott is Professor of Paleontology from the University of Leicester and told BBC Leicester's Ady Dayman how the environment at the time meant the bones were preserved.
