Do weeks end on Friday?
A spiritual comment and prayer to start the day with Haydon Spenceley.
A spiritual comment and prayer to start the day with Haydon Spenceley
Good morning.
Do weeks end on Friday? I’m not so sure anymore. We’re all so flexible, fluid and often pretty worn out that much of life seems to be a twenty four hour a day, 365 days a year headlong rush to whatever constitutes the finish line for many. I don’t know how healthy that is but I know I’ve been part of that myself, contributed to it and although I hope not too often have probably caused it in other people too. I want and need to learn that there are better ways to live, work, rest, play and contribute to society. One of those ways which I am sure is going to be a key part for me is to spend more time praying.
When I pray it’s not some kind of sanctified shopping list of desires (perhaps a cuddly toy, a new wheelchair, a last minute winner for Northampton tomorrow). Prayer is a connection between me and God. God loves me, do I love God? Good relationships take communication, both ways, and I want to both speak and listen to God. I think it will help me live better, make better decisions, help myself and other people better. Life is an opportunity that I want to take and take well for as long as I have the chance. As I end my week here with you all I hope you enjoy the chance to do something a little bit like that, too.
Father, thank you for your love. I pray that you help us to be thankful people. Help us to speak to you, to listen to you and follow you into today and all that is to come with true confidence.
Amen.
