Tchaikovsky and Mahler live from Wigmore Hall

Elizabeth Alker brings you an afternoon of exclusive music-making, including a live concert from London's Wigmore Hall and highlights from this summer's Edinburgh International Festival. Mezzo-soprano Alice Coote and pianist Sergey Rybin perform music by Tchaikovsky and Mahler, launching a new season of chamber music from Wigmore Hall. The programme includes songs on the themes of love and loss and reminds us of the things we share, even across political borders and at times of conflict.

From the Edinburgh International Festival, the celebrated Pavel Haas Quartet perform Czech music by Bohuslav Martinů.

Elsewhere in the programme, we hear music from lowland Europe. From Amsterdam, Duncan Ward conducts the South Netherlands Philharmonic in Stravinsky’s colourful and theatrical Petrushka. From the Utrecht Early Music Festival, the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra, led by violinist Michael Waterman, perform music from the 18th century and Ensemble Correspondances perform André Campra’s moving Requiem Mass.
