Comic Katherine Ryan’s family/work/life balance is in serious need of CPR as she hunts down solutions and ideas for making more time for her children, her marriage and her ‘waning’ career. In tonight’s episode Katherine weighs up whether giving her children total freedom vs tightly controlling them will give them a better future, starting with nursery options for her middle child

Fred. Torn between town and forest options she’s not even sure Fred is going to want to go to nursery in the first place! To find out what other options there might be, Katherine visits a family who ‘unschool’ their children - instead of being in school Monday to Friday, this family prefers to let their kids’ imaginations lead them in what to learn, and when. Katherine also visits a family who seem the opposite of the freedom loving unschoolers, the super-busy and infamous Marsh family. A family who found fame, if not fortune, with their pandemic satire videos on YouTube. Katherine will throw herself in the deep end with both families, and hopefully come out knowing a little bit more about how she wants to parent.
