Jas Kayser sits in

This week, London-based drummer, percussionist and bandleader Jas Kayser is sitting in for Soweto Kinch, sharing some exciting jazz releases from the UK and around the world.

London-based drummer, percussionist and bandleader Jas Kayser is sitting in for Soweto Kinch, sharing some of her favourite new releases and jazz classics.

When Jas is not touring with American rockstar Lenny Kravitz, the Berklee College of Music alumna leads her own band, Jas & Chums, and is a much-celebrated member of the UK jazz world and beyond.

From Monday to Thursday this week, Jas welcomes legendary jazz drummer and personal hero Louis Hayes as her guest. In his over seven decades-spanning career so far, Louis has worked with fellow greats of the music, including McCoy Tyner, Cannonball Adderley, Yusef Lateef, Freddie Hubbard, and Joe Henderson to name a few, and is a formidable bandleader in his own right.

In this special edition of 4/4, Louis chooses four of the albums from his back catalogue that have been meaningful to him. To begin his week, Louis selects an album by a seminal jazz pianist who he worked with at a formative time in his life.

Also in the programme, there is music from Mark Kavuma and The Banger Factory, Terri Lyne Carrington and Christie Dashiell, and Chelsea Carmichael.
