Springtime blessings… with Zakia

Zakia celebrates Spring Equinox with a load of folky selections. Expect some Pentangle, Donovan and Vashti Bunyan, plus we hear from the Black British Folk Collective.

DJ, broadcaster, writer and dreamer Zakia Sewell provides the soundtrack to your dreams - playing music to ease the mind, soothe the soul, and open portals to new dimensions…

Zakia celebrates the Spring Equinox - the first day of spring - as the wheel of the year turns ever on. We welcome in the light with lots of folky selections, leaning heavily into the pagan-adjacent sounds of the late 60s folk revival including Dream Time favourites Pentangle, Davy Graham, Vashti Bunyan and Donovan. There’s some new releases from Tara Clerkin Trio, Enji and Green-House, and an ode to springtime from the legendary Sun Ra.

Plus, we hear from the Black British Folk Collective - a trio of musicians and researchers made up of Angeline Morrison, Bianca Wilson and Marcus MacDonald. They tell us a bit about their work, their Equinox rituals and each pick a song that’s important to them.

We want to hear your dreams! Send in tales of your sleepy adventures to dreamtime@bbc.co.uk or text us on 03700 100 600
