It's a busy time for Meena with Diwali, the fair coming to town, then an ambulance. Meera Syal reads her own novel. From 1996.

12-year-old Meena Kumar is an Asian girl living a fairly uneventful life in the Black Country village of Tollington near Wolverhampton in the 1970s - surrounded by her loving, if slightly eccentric, Punjabi family. But then one day she meets Anita Rutter.....

Meena causes a stir when she appears before her family wearing make-up for the first time. Anita warns her not to go to the fair so, what does she do.......

Actress and comedy writer Meera Syal reads her first novel - abridged in ten parts by Doreen Estall.
