During the long summer break from school, Meena is desperate to be accepted by her peers. Meera Syal reads her novel. From 1996.

12-year-old Meena Kumar is an Asian girl living a fairly uneventful life in the Black Country village of Tollington near Wolverhampton in the 1970s - surrounded by her loving, if slightly eccentric, Punjabi family. But then one day she meets Anita Rutter.....

During the long summer holidays, Meena is desperate to fit in with the other children.

Actress and comedy writer Meera Syal reads her first novel - abridged in ten parts by Doreen Estall.
