The BBC Food & Farming Awards 2026 Privacy Notice
The BBC is committed to protecting the privacy and security of your personal data. It is

Who is the Data Controller?
For the purposes of this event, the BBC is the data controller of your personal data. This
means that the BBC determines the purposes and means of processing and is
responsible for ensuring compliance with data protection law.

What personal data BBC collects?
When you nominate someone for an award, the BBC will process data about you as the
nominator. This may include:
• Name
• Email Address
• Telephone number (for the Countryfile Young Countryside Champion award only)
The BBC will also collect personal data about the nominee, which may be you, if you
nominate yourself. Where a business is nominated, this may include personal data about
individuals associated with that business, such as the owner or person running it. This
may include:
• Name
• Postal address
• Social media handle
• Information surrounding your/their activity with regards food and/or farming
If you are nominating someone under the age of 18, ensure you have permission from
their parent or guardian before submitting their personal data. You should not provide
any special category data as part of your submission.
How we use your personal data
The BBC will use your personal data for the purposes of:
• running and administering the awards;
• assessing nominations; and
• managing shortlisted entries and awards outcomes.
Where applicable, personal data may also be processed in connection with BBC
programme-making activities. This may include:
• radio broadcasts;
• television broadcasts;
• availability of programmes online and/or on demand; and
• reuse of content in future broadcasts.
We may also use your contribution for promotional purposes across BBC platforms,

Lawful basis for processing your personal data
The lawful basis on which the BBC processes your personal data and special category
data is that it is necessary for the performance of its public task. This means the BBC
processes personal data to carry out its role in the public interest, including providing
content that informs, educates and entertains audiences across the United Kingdom.
In some cases, the BBC also processes personal data to comply with its legal obligations,
for example where it is required to process the personal data of award winners to comply
with relevant competition regulations.
Sharing your personal data
The BBC may share personal data with approved third-party service providers who assist
with the delivering the awards. These third-parties will only process your data on behalf
of the BBC and in accordance with its instructions. They will not use your personal data
for their own purposes.
We may also share personal data where required or permitted by law.
How long does BBC keep your personal data
Personal data relating to unsuccessful submissions will be retained for up to six months,
after which it will be deleted.
Records of winners and shortlisted individuals will be retained for two years for auditing
and compliance purposes.
Where contributions are broadcast or used across BBC platforms, they may be retained
in perpetuity in alignment with the BBC Archiving policy.
Where is your personal data is stored?
Your personal data will be stored in the UK and the European Economic Area (EEA).
Your rights
You have rights under UK data protection law, including right to:
• request a copy of the personal data BBC has about you.
• request correction of inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
• request deletion of your data, however there are limitations and exceptions to this
right which may entitle the BBC to refuse your request.
• restrict the processing of your personal data or to object the processing, in certain
circumstances.
• request portability of your data in certain circumstances.
