Vintage Cash Cow - May 2026
Vintage Cash Cow is a website that allows users to sell their valuables. The company provides a free valuation – you post your items to the company, who gives the seller a quote. And if they aren’t happy, items should be posted back to them..
However, Watchdog has heard from some customers who say that the offers they received were far lower than expected. In some cases, when the item arrived back to the sellers, they were either broken or the items didn't arrive back at all.
We meet Lynne from Tamworth who sent 150 items to be valued which she believed would be worth around £500-£1000. She was offered £140, which she says was too low and noticed when the items were returned, at least 20 were missing.
We also meet Beverley from Dorset who sent a ring, a watch and other items to Vintage Cash Cow. She was offered just £20, and when the items came back, she realised both boxes were empty. Vintage Cash Cow claimed the boxes were empty to begin with.
Lastly, we meet Sue from Essex, who sent 7 items in Oct 2024. She also rejected her offer, and when the items were sent back, she was shocked to discover that they weren't her items. Despite Vintage Cash Cow accepting blame, she was offered only £50 compensation even though our valuer said that they might be worth over £800.
When we wrote to Vintage Cash Cow, it said it was founded in 2016 to give people a genuinely convenient way to sell items they no longer need, with no fees and no obligation. It told us that since then, 300,000 customers across the UK and Europe have trusted Vintage Cash Cow with over one million boxes. It said that every box is tracked from door to door using Royal Mail and assessed in person by a trained specialist at its Leeds facility.
We were told the company is proud that more than 30,000 customers have independently reviewed it on Trustpilot, where it holds an 'Excellent' rating of 4.4 out of 5. It said its customers can also feel reassured that every box it receives is insured up to £300 as a standard, with enhanced cover of up to £10,000 available on request at no additional cost.
Vintage Cash Cow told us it recognises the importance of every box that customers send, which is why it continues to invest in its operations and processes to improve the service it provides. Finally, we were told that while issues can occasionally occur in any operation handling large volumes, cases of this nature remain extremely rare, adding that Sue and Lynn were two of those occasions, and that it has since reached out to them directly to make things right.
