Mike Harding presents an hour of the very best in folk, roots and acoustic music including an interview with Canadian Celtic singer Loreena McKennitt.
A singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist, Loreena has sold more than 14 million records worldwide since releasing her debut, Elemental, in 1985. The self-managed and self-produced star, who is known for her epic and dramatic treatments of Celtic, Middle Eastern and European music, tells Mike about her latest album, The Wind That Shakes The Barley.
The new album, Loreena's ninth studio LP, sees her return to her musical roots and focus exclusively on songs from the Celtic tradition. These include As I Roved Out, On A Bright May Morning and The Star Of The County Down. Speaking from Toronto, she talks to Mike about her remarkable career and the huge contribution she has made in bringing Celtic music to a mass audience.

The theme of this week's Lunchtime Concerts is New Tunes On Old Fiddles. Recorded in the Clothworkers Centenary Concert Hall at the University of Leeds, the four concerts focus on so-called "ancient" instruments, both in their familiar repertoire and out of their comfort zone, and each concert includes the world première of a new work by a young composer.
Today's recital features viola d'amore players Catherine Mackintosh and Bojan Cicic, with Susanne Heinrich and Christopher Bucknall providing the continuo. The programme includes music by Attilio Ariosti, Friedrich Rust and Heinrich Biber, plus the world première of an intriguingly entitled new work by young Manchester-based composer Duncan Ward: Who Is Mr Grobe?
