Super sniffing dogs help find hidden water leaks

Super-sniffing dogs are helping to solve a big problem - leaky water pipes.

A company called Southern Water is working with specially trained dogs to find leaks that are often hidden underground.

Milo, Kilo and Tico are the three clever canines with amazing noses.

They've been trained to sniff out chlorine, a substance found in clean drinking water. When water leaks from pipes, even deep below the ground, the dogs can smell it.

Southern Water supplies about 566 million litres of water every day, but around 91 million litres are lost through leaks. That's a lot of wasted water.

As most leaks can't be seen from the surface, the dogs are helping in places that are tricky for people and machines to reach.
