Do you love adding emojis to your messages and comments?

They've been around for nearly 30 years and now we have a choice of nearly 4,000 of them.

According to data from Google, the loudly crying face emoji with tears streaming down its face was the most popular emoji in 2025, overtaking the laughing with tears emojis.

The Moai and wilting rose emojis are gaining in popularity

Google's data was taken from a sample of 665 million emojis used by people on a Google keyboard used by most Android devices.

The use of emojis and their meaning is constantly evolving, and the changes are usually driven by young people.

New emojis emerging in popularity include the wilting rose emoji instead of the broken heart emoji, while the Moai emoji is being used to show a deadpan response to something.
