How did this island appear, disappear and then reappear somewhere else?

Now you see it, now you don't - now you do again!

A small island in Canada has reappeared in a lake after disappearing from satellite images.

It was first discovered earlier this summer in the province of British Columbia by local boaters, who filmed their surprise discovery.

However, a few weeks later, it had vanished from the spot.

It's now been detected again - a few miles away from where it was initially seen.

A satellite image taken in late July confirmed the presence of the island.

It was spotted floating in the middle of Williston Reservoir, British Columbia's largest freshwater lake.

Soon after, local boaters also came across the new formation.

But another satellite image, taken just a couple of weeks later, showed it had disappeared.

Officials say the island has now been located again, slightly closer to the shore, around 18 miles from where it was first spotted.

This was confirmed by a new satellite image and also from a couple of eyewitness accounts from pilots flying above.

The forested patch of land is slightly larger than a Premier League football pitch.

Bob Gammer, who works for BC Hydro, the company which looks after the reservoir, explained that they think they have a theory as to how this small island was able to play hide-and-seek.

He said it likely formed over many years because of driftwood that served as a base for plants and trees to take root.

He added he believed it broke off from the reservoir's shoreline, which is why it was able to float across the reservoir.
